Parrots
1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
As it is Saturday, I woke Kiwi up a little earlier than normal and we made our way to the weekly farmers market (He likes the farmers market. Little ham gets lots of attention and sometimes a few free berries or nuts:rolleyes:). On our way home, I saw a sign for a multi family garage sale and decided to check it out. I hit the jackpot! Found one of those HUGE craft organizers that looks like a suitcase with a million pockets and places to put stuff for $10:eek: I also found an extremely nice "trio" consisting of a backpack, messenger bag and small purse all of the same brand. Guys wife wasn't around so he took $5 for all 3! I looked up the brand (Oggio) when I got home, and apparently I got about $275 worth of bags for $5:D Not only cheap, but really nice quality and very practical. I think I'm going to have to take Kiwi to garage sales more often, he seems to attract good deals:54:

WOW!!!! I bet his wife is going to be disappointed lol nice steal for $5!!! You're making me want to go to garage sales now!

You know, even though you made some good finds, I think you just used Kiwi as an excuse to go flea marketing & stopping at garage sales.....

It's actually kind of funny that I go to sales/flea markets/thrift stores all the time but never really look for myself:54: (nor do I take Kiwi on those kind of "excursions"). I buy stuff, clean it and re-sell it on ebay, so 99% of the time, I am totally focused on only buying stuff I can flip (not bags for myself or answering millions of questions about Kiwi:rolleyes:). It was kind of fun today though, we got to walk around a new neighborhood and he got lots of attention:p

I have an Oggio cycling bag and it was a steal at $80, so you made out like a bandit. Good job!

Sounds like it was an awesome Saturday for both you and Kiwi.

I'd never heard of the brand before, but I could tell I probably shouldn't pass them up:54: I couldn't believe my luck at finding 3 useful sized bags that I actually liked the color on (the purse and messenger bag are turquoise and the backpack is tan with pink flowers). I think the fabric/styles will be so much more suited to Oregon weather than my girly purses that let the rain in:p I spent last winter keeping all the stuff in my purse in a ziplock bag lol. I hosed all of them off and they cleaned up beautifully.

I think the guy was so mesmerized by Kiwi he was happy to negotiate a bit;). You know "hypnotoad" from Futurama? That's the kind of reaction I get to Kiwi out in public. People just stand there dumbfounded as they try to process that it's a real, living, breathing big green parrot, and he's in a backpack. I get asked all the time "is that a real parrot?". Then they take a few steps closer, while still kind of keeping their distance and just stare at him in total silence:52:. I have to tell them "you can say hi to him" of fear their silent staring will freak him out (it freaks me out). Maybe I SHOULD take him to more garage sales though:D :

"Stare at my magical :green: and give me good deals:53:" lololol

Nice bargain!!! :D Though if I were his wife pretty sure he'd get a sound beating later on hahaha. Just kidding ^^ lol

Wow! What a nice find April! :D Kiwi must be good luck because that doesn't happen too often!

Have you seen the tv series Accidental Fortune? Where people pick up a cheap throw away item at a garage sale and come to discover it's a rare masterpiece or something that's literally worth a fortune!

I think because I take him out to play all the time, he repays me with his magical parrot powers:D

I let them all drip-dry outside overnight, and they look like new! The big craft case only needed to be vacuumed. So excited to get all my craft supplies organized!

And Julie, we don't have a TV, but I could imagine them making a show like that! You can find some really valuable stuff sometimes at garage sales or thrift stores that no one guessed was worth anything. I wish they wouldn't make shows like that though....Then EVERYONE wants to go to the garage sales and buy up your deals:(
