I went to the bird fair today.
There were a number of birds that caught my eye .

A Mealy Amazon parrot that was a plucker.
When he shook his head I got some liquid on my face from him so that was a deal breaker.

A red factor CAG 7 years old and minor plucking.

A pair of white fronted amazons.

A very friendly and young blue and gold macaw.
I was very tempted but… it would be a disservice to the bird in my too small house.

But the bird that was most striking. The bird that called to me the strongest was a special Mexican redhead amazon.
He’s 4 months old and he looks like a mixture of yellow nape and Mexican redhead.

He’s already checked out his toys ate a small bit and started grinding his beak.
I don’t have a really good picture yet cuz I want to let him unwind but I’ll have plenty before too long.
Ohh I need a name as well.

Oh Wes, what a wonderful gift, and just in time for Christmas too! Congrats, he's gorgeous!!:love::love:

Congratulations to both of you! I love bird fairs because you get to meet and handle so many terrific birds. I got a 4 mo old baby Goffins Cockatoo at the Pomona CA bird expo many years ago. Baby birds are such a joy! Bingo is happy for you and your new baby.
Can't wait for pictures and a name so I can update A Little Bit of Bella!

I think another PF member went, to the show, too. FrancieMae's father was going to try to find a young cockatoo since Mischief flew away in November. Their family has taken losing Mischief very hard.

I saw two of the large sort of cockatoo, not sulfur crested . A few Gallas and maybe a bare eyed too.
I am not really up on all the different too family members.
Only one Eclectis (sorry about spelling).
No Patagonia conures.
Lots of small non parrot birds. Canaries, finches.
A surprising number of puppies for sale.

I guess this is a result of laws banning pet shops from selling cats and dogs.
There were no dogs last time I went in 2018.

I saw no caiques .
Lots of IRN.
Lots of cockatiels.
Budgies yes but I think the Cockatiels outnumber them.

Here’s a nother pic of his beautiful neck/head coloring.

Oh he's a lovely boy, Wes! I'm hoping you might pop a pic of him in the December POTM contest - hint hint!! ;)

He has Christmas colors for sure! What a lucky birdie to have been taken home by someone who will love him so much- don't know who I'm happier for!

Awww Wes, he's gorgeous! I must admit, I don't know if I could have pulled myself away from that snuggly blue throat. I guess it's a good thing that there's no bird fairs near us, otherwise I suspect I'd have a much bigger flock and the Mrs would not be happy with that. šŸ™„ :)

That macaw was tempting but so many factors are against it.
Space/room.
Different and somewhat more expensive diet.
Body language is completely unknown to me.
That old saying ā€œnot a matter of if you get bitten but whenā€
Bingo was top of the mark for bite pressure and damage I was willing to risk.

He’s not ready for fame and fortune yet :ROFLMAO: šŸ“£
I’m still working on a name.
I asked Grok for some ideas and it came up with one I liked and gave me idea for a second possibility.

Wanted something that reflected the yellow on his neck.
Grok suggested ā€œNugget ā€œ and I like it.
Very gender neutral.
The one I thought of was Cheddar.
I love cheese šŸ§€ and it’s also gender neutral.

Nugget is cute. We named our first chickens with chicken food themed names: Nugget, Biscuit, Waffles, and Patty. :) And no, they're not for eating, they're layers and pets.

I like Nugget too. I call my lovebird Button Lil Nuggie from time to time.

My wife doesn’t like either of my ideas.
Nugget gives the image of ā€œChicken nuggetā€ not ā€œgolden nuggetā€.
I don’t know what her objection is to cheddar.
I am waiting for her ideas.

It could be we are up against a bit of a language barrier. My wife is fluent in English but it’s not her first language. She wants another Spanish name.
I’m ok with that as long as it somehow reflects his colorful neck.
I have very limited vocabulary in Spanish so I’m in a holding pattern for a name.

Cheddar is showing his smarts.
He knows the kitchen is where all the goodies are.
When my Son or I go into the kitchen makes this high pitched and loud call, almost a shriek.
None of my other birds make sound like that.

He ate some apple and eat some of his dry food.
Never saw him drinking water but he must have had some. The breeder had his bowl field with a seed mix with sunflower seeds. Hopefully I don’t have a problem getting him off them.

PiƱata works :D! I also like Nugget! One of my cockatiels went to someone who named their bird 'Bagwis' (bah-g-wiss), which I believe is 'Feather' in Portuguese.

Feather in Portuguese is pluma or pena. Pluma also means feather in Spanish. I had to look up ā€œBagwisā€ as I have never come across that word. It the name of a Filipino comics character and subsequent movie. 😜

I wish there were bird fairs in my part of the state. It would be interesting to see all the different birds and maybe pick up some new chew toys.

Enjoy your new beauty!

Chiquita for the yellow neck area and bananas are green before yellow and that's another color the birdie has.

Sol? It’s sun or sunshine in Spanish

For the golden theme, or gilded... Dorado, or Ɓureo (like Oreo?) I always liked Aurelia or Aurelius- the golden one.
