hi ev1, im new to this site and also to young birds and was hoping for some advice.
3 days ago my partner got me an 11 week old alexandrine "oxy".
he is currently weaning, this morning was the first time he actually took his rearing mix. my parents are both breeders and have offered me alot of advice, but although they have experience with many birds from budgies, lorikeets, eclectus', amazons, macaws, conures etc, but no alex.
on the feeding front, they have told me not to worry to much as he spends most of day eating fresh friut and veg.
my main concern today is his behaviour. since i have had him, he has been very cuddly and happy to sit on my chest and have a scratch. in the last few hours tho he just keeps climbing up to my shoulder onto back of lounge and flies back to his cage or stand in his room. when i do manage to get him to rest on my chest he seems to be shaking and wont stay there long.
i know it takes time for any bird to settle into a new home. should i keep trying or just give him some space? i dont want to stress him out but i also dont want him to revert.
sorry for the long post, and many thanks for taking the time to read
