alexandrines : Oxy, Bruno, prince (was princess)
hi ev1, im new to this site and also to young birds and was hoping for some advice.
3 days ago my partner got me an 11 week old alexandrine "oxy".
he is currently weaning, this morning was the first time he actually took his rearing mix. my parents are both breeders and have offered me alot of advice, but although they have experience with many birds from budgies, lorikeets, eclectus', amazons, macaws, conures etc, but no alex.
on the feeding front, they have told me not to worry to much as he spends most of day eating fresh friut and veg.
my main concern today is his behaviour. since i have had him, he has been very cuddly and happy to sit on my chest and have a scratch. in the last few hours tho he just keeps climbing up to my shoulder onto back of lounge and flies back to his cage or stand in his room. when i do manage to get him to rest on my chest he seems to be shaking and wont stay there long.
i know it takes time for any bird to settle into a new home. should i keep trying or just give him some space? i dont want to stress him out but i also dont want him to revert.
sorry for the long post, and many thanks for taking the time to read

hi ev1 sorry I cant help you, but i just wanted to say welcome and cant wait to see pics ofyour new baby Oxy! my baby is only 5weeks, and still at cuddly stage. from what i have read from other posts, your baby is probably still settling in? good luck and i am sure he will become the cuddly baby you had 3 days ago :)

thanks for the warm welcome midori.
after posting yesterday i spent the rest of the day with him in his room just talking with him. he flew over to me a couple times and was quite content sitting on my chest last night for a cuddle.

ill try post a pic

Welcome to the forum:)

Here is how to post pics...

When you are creating your post, go into attachments, click on upload from Computer, then browse.. click on the pic you want to show, then click on upload.... or if you have photobucket just hover mouse over the image then left click on IMG and it will say copied, then just paste into your message box, go onto preview post and it will show if it has gone in properly:)

hes cute! glad that he is coming around, and soon he wont be leaving you alone again. i dont think Midori is going to fly, cos that would mean he would be away from me. all he wants to do is sit on my chest, and hes not interested in exploring. its cute, but mightnt be good thing when hes older! at least i can put him in his cage when i need to do things and hes fine with that.
