My Severe & me, rescued 20 yrs ago

So who rescued who? I'm quite not sure..

I didn't have a clue about parrots when I found Katie advertised in the local 'Thrifty Nickel' newspaper. Not exactly a fine purveyor of exotic animals, but what did I know? Obviously not much. I'd never had a parrot before or since. 2 yrs old and abused- she was kept in a tool shed. She would scream whenever she saw a stick. A broom, a mop, a golf swing or baseball bat swing on the TV. It wasn't for another 13 years a vet found the pin in her leg due to the broken leg. I had no idea it was there. It explains a lot, the red spot on her foot pad, the way she walks with her foot turned inward.

She would bite me often during our first 6 months together. Trust issues with humans I'm sure, but also a bumbling guy learning about what exactly a parrot is. Her ability to persevere & seek joy amazes me. Even 20 years later..

Animal abusers are truly lower life forms. I wish the vile things who abuse animals could suffer the same abuse they inflict as punishment!

Katie is a beautiful girl and I am sure is so happy to have landed with you when she did. 20 years as a loved bird in a good home is a wonderful thing She looks quite healthy and I'm sure she has you wrapped around her little talon, as it should be.

Congrats! I've not been around adult severes but they were my favorite babies to hand feed years ago when I worked at a bird only pet store.
