I feel like I'm posting a lot, so I hope I'm not getting on anyone's nerves! My birds only play when I'm in the room with them, it seems. I see no evidence of them destroying toys or cardboard or paper when I'm out of the house, even for hours, but they will do so occasionally if I'm sitting with them (they are in my home office).
What do they do if I'm out for 5 or 6 hours? Get depressed? Sleep? I just don't get it.

Don't ever worry about posting a lot, and you are certainly NOT going on anyone's nerves. :)

I've been told by my family that my gang is VERY quiet when I'm not home. Now there is a difference between me being upstairs, where they can't see me, or be actually leaving the house. When I'm upstairs, I can hear them playing, talking, whistling, singing, and throwing things around.

When I leave, I always leave the radio or TV on for them, which they seem to enjoy.

Do you rotate the toys regularly, so that your baby doesn't get bored with them?

I do rotate but there are so few things they seem to take an interest in. I show them how cool a new toy is and they're like, yeahwhatever. Seagrass mats keep them entertained for a bit but only if there's food stuck in them. My black capped only likes things with bells on them or the mats or foraging cups. Everything else is Booorrrrrinnnng.

I know exactly what they do when they're alone : they plot and conspire! :D

I get to hear my bird are making sounds when i'm not home.
When i'm home except for the greeting they make only little noises from time to time.
How many times I've wondered to put camera's for the cage's.

We have two nanny cams in the bird room..
It's pretty funny what they do on their own when we're not home. The chatter from the Grey alone is priceless!

Maybe they take naps? You can check the bottom of the cage for any evidence of their activity.

Usually I find bits of food, shredded toys and bigger than usual poos (on top of the regular sized ones) that indicate Kiwi takes little naps here and there.

I also leave the radio on..she loves the music. When I come home, I let her out and with the radio still playing she will hop on me and start to dance to the music with me. Maybe she practices dance moves when I'm gone… :p :p

I also have baby cams (video monitor)...chili for the most part will preen or take a nap during her mandatory "quiet time" lol sometimes she chews on things, but she mainly practices her talking- SUCH a chatterbox lol I think she practices her whole vocabulary and then some

"she's a pretty girl, such a pretty girl, pretty bird, pretty pretty pretty!" KISS KISS KISS KISS
Hahaha

When i go to work, i always ask my brother just to check in on Fargo occasionally..

He will play with his foraging toys, but he gets all the treats out too quickly.. Then he destroys the fresh leaves i put in there..

But after that, he just sits on his java perch, and waits until i get home :o

My brother says he never makes a single peep, doesn't jump around, just sits there! Unless he sits out next to his window and Fargo talks to him...

I got home last week and Sam said- Do you know that Fargo calls out 'taabiithaaaaaa'

HAHAHA :o

Ok, so it sounds like mine are fairly normal and I shouldn't worry too much. I just wish they wouldn't rely on me 100% to be entertained...what the heck are toys for, anyway!

My grown daughter (Sasha) who lives on her own, came over one day to use my desk top computer which is in the same room as Sweet Pea's cage. I was at work that day, as it was a week day. Sasha told me that Pea was singing along with the songs on the radio we leave on for her.

I've never heard her do that when I'm home. Sasha said that it was as if Pea just knew which song was coming on the radio and started singing the words to it a split second before the song played on the radio.

I'd love to hear Sweet Pea do that! But I figure that when I'm home, her focus is on me, as she considers me part of her flock. :)

I have thought about getting a little nanny cam to see what my pets do!!! I "think" Gilbert would chatter when i'm gone, but i know he goes nuts on his toys and his food. His cage is trashed by the time i come home. Occasionally i will laugh and realize "well, i guess he finally took a liking to THAT toy today" because it may be a toy that's been in that very spot for weeks but one day i come home and it is annihilated and lying in shreds on the cage floor. Gilbert particularly likes to destroy his toys into pieces on the floor and then he rolls around talking to them. "Beak made" foot toys. :)

Ah, that's a little sad, huh!!

How cute!!! Sweet Pea often will yell (and I mean "yell") CINDY!!! when she's hanging out with my husband. He never yells at me, so I don't know where she gets that from. Sometimes I just call to her from another room and say "What?" or sometimes I get up and go to her - either way, she lowers her voice and in a monotone, she says "bye bye".... Such a silly thing! I think she's just checking that I'm in the house still, or trying to give me some exercise, lol!

When I m out to school during the semester my girls are awake at 5:30am and we play for an hour while I prepare their breakfast, then I shower and get ready, then they preen me , I place their breakfast and water bowls and head to clinic. My mother says when I m away at school they re very quiet not a single whistle. However the minute I walk into the garage it sounds like the amazon with kiwis excited whistles and calls and pickles saying all her words at the same time in her excited high pitch voice and her hellllllo hellllllo pretty girl pickles pickles come playy lol

Oh, birds can entertain themselves very well especially if there are a few in the cage! :D I can observe my birds for hours from the window when I take them outside on the patio on nice summer days. :) They are having no less fun in their big cage than when I'm around. :)
