Who else knew there where nanday mutations?? I had no idea until about 10 mins ago haha! They're gorgeous! I was stuck between nanday and sun cuz of color and such but now the nanday is winning! I heard there was lutino cinnamon and blue but only found pics of the lutino is there more and where can I find pics? And even breeders??

There's also pied and dilute? The first time I saw the lutino nanday, I thought it was a cherry head!

The cinnamon and dilute mutations may be the same mutation... just depends on how the color is inherited.

Interestingly, most of these mutations seem to be in Australia. I don't know of any available in the USA - at least not to the pet trade.

I do have photos of an unconfirmed pied. It's a light pied nanday, and assumed pied, however at the time the bird was not bred with so no information is known beyond that.

Can't seem to find a confirmed pied... although if you are interested in mutations, there are some other photos available here... among other places!

I do know that Lutino Dusky's are available to the pet trade, although I have yet to see one as a pet! I've seen one in a pet store, but that's about it! lol

How interesting, will have to look into it some more when I'm less... 3am and sleepy :p

I just fell in love with the blue.. that's a goal of mine now haha and I know its about personality so hopefully I can find one that clicks! There amazing looking aren't they?? I'm gonna keep looking and looking to see if they come here. I know it would be super expensive but do you think they would ship from australia? I know it sounds insane but I would def. pay for the fastest travel lol or maybe even to travel there for a weekend! I need to calm down Lol!

LOL Unfortunately not! It's pretty much illegal to import or export birds in Australia.

Aw well thats no good:( im sure there has to be at least one breeder in the US thats gotten the blue mutation! i just have no idea where to look haha any tips??

If Pepper is a pure nanday, then he may be what is known as a 'progressive pied'. If hybrid, I would guess that the other species would be 25% or less... i.e. one parent a hybrid and the other a pure.

Do you have photos to compare from when you first bought him and now?

Unfortunately no. When I got him last December, he looked like a regular Nanday. In the few weeks after, when he was about 5-6 months old, the reds and yellows started popping up.

Very cool looking bird! lucky you:) so now that i've calmed down some haha i have a breeder thats relatively close to me(4 hours one way) and he has both suns and nandays so im gonna go out there for a whole day maybe the weekend but im gonna spend as much time as possible with both species and fall in love with the bird not the species:) i wanna let the bird pick me! whether its a sun or nanday:)

hi

did you ever come across anyone with the mutation nandays. i am the owner of the blue nanday and it is in england. is there anyone else with one??

I have yet to come across an owner of a mutation nanday that was a pet, not a breeder.
