Hey guys! Is it normal for birds to get tired half way through the day? I noticed that in the afternoon Pierre will start squinting. I can't tell if it is because he is annoyed with me (I usually notice this when I'm talking to him) or because he's tired! Is he not getting enough sleep? I make sure to cover his cage at least 12 hours a night but my sister is only 8 years old so sometimes I have to remind her to keep her voice down and the living room (where his cage is) is connected to the kitchen so it can get a little traffic. Or is it normal for birds to take little cat naps? Thanks everyone!

Mine take cat naps all the time.

It is completely normal for birds to take afternoon naps. Mine take their naps around 3-4. I usually leave them along for a bit so I don't have cranky birds later.

Yep. Completely normal :)

All my birds take a nap at the same time my toddler does, which is nice because then I get quiet time all by myself :D of course chili (my galah) makes sure I know when nap time is over and she's ready for her afternoon meal  haha

Mine all take a nice long afternoon nap, everyday...even if it's noisy in the house or there is a lot going on...even our new Sun conure...whom apparently wouldn't quiet down for nothing during the day at his previous home...takes a nap when everyone else does around here.

His previous owner couldn't believe it...so I took a picture of him sleeping on my shoulder after lunch.

I notice my birds will sense when I'm really tired...or need a nap, even if it's not their nap time yet...all I have to do is lay down or rest in my chair and they just quiet down and start grinding their beaks...it's soo adorable!

Thanks guys! :) how cute! Now I know to leave him alone for the afternoon. Good thing too bc I kept feeling bad every time I had to leave him alone but now I'll just plan accordingly.

Rico gets up around 8, if we get up, and likes to party, (Sing and listen to music loud) until about 10. then he preens until about 12, then he eat a good sized meal and naps all afternoon until about 3:30. His evenings aren't set in stone yet. Sometimes he's grumpy. Sometimes he's loud. Sometimes he just wants to watch tv. Lol
