My boy George is nearly 4 months (on the 19th) he has begun talking a bit saying "hello" "Hi" and "cockadoodle doo" I was surprised that he began talking so quickly because everything I had read said that he would not until about a yer or 2. Anyone know an aprox age for talking behavior? Also does anyone know of a good site that has instruction on trick training. I have fallen in love with Fargo the McCaw and all his tricks I have begun trying to teach George but want to do it in a way that is good for him and helps him learn.

Any advice would be great. Also our baby Gracie hatched on May1st I will post pictures soon.

Wow! A talker at four months how awesome. Oliver is nearly 10 months old and says a few things but the only really clear words are Mom, hello, hi, and I love you. And...he has to be in the mood to talk. When we shower or I brush my teeth or run water basically, it kicks him into talking otherwise only when the mood strikes....

Awesome when they begin to talk... especially those first few words OMG

When a bird is constantly involved in "family" conversations and spoken to they will begin to talk, not matter what age.
Remember to record what he is saying now, and record again in two months time, you will be quite amazed how much his vocabulary has grown.

Mishka my African Grey began talking when almost two months old. He is a 24/7 chatterbox and our free entertainment channel.

Below are two link which I am sure will assist you pertaining to teaching a bird to talk.

Lucky!! Nalani's almost a year old and she only knows a few words: hi, hello, I love you, come here, whoop whoop and she clucks like a chicken. She had a bit of a slow start, but I never expected her to talk. It was a nice surprise, but wasn't a determining factor when I chose an eclectus. I tried to catch it on video, but she's so camera shy. Hehe cutie!

A few words are the beginning to more words

Try hiding the camera away where Nalani's not able to see it

OR

Leave the camera near the cage, not recording let Nalani get used to seeing it. Often fiddle with the camera and talk to Nalani. Soon you will be videoing to your hearts desire.

As far as my ekkies are concerned, they don't do tricks period as they sit idol a lot day dreaming....I'm sure they can learn something cause I taught JoJo to give kisses. :)

George is with me 24/7 even when I go to the store I put his flight suit on him attach his shower perch to the passenger side window and off we go. He seems more animated in the car than anywhere and comes out with the strangest noises and what sounds like near words. But I talk to him constantly .. he is so attached to me at this point that this evening when I was laying on the sofa under a throw blanket he crawled under the blanket and went to sleep on my chest after kissing me a BUNCH. He is such a love.

Aww that is so stinking sweet! Do you take him in the stores with you?

I do take him in the stores, since I am training him to work with the elderly (im working on my PsyD in Psychology) so that once I am in private practice he can "go to work" with me, so he is considered a therapy animal in training so they allow it as long as he has his filight suite on. He gets misted daily and since Eclectus have low dust and he has his clothes on and is so sweet the locals where I live give me very little trouble.

It helps that I am well known where I live and he goes to the nursing home already.

I am so glad that I waited to get a larger bird than a budgie, as I got the perfect bird for me or I should say the perfect bird picked me :)

Ah, George sounds like such a character! I never thought to use the shower perch on the car window. How Clever! Where did you get your flight suit and is it difficult to get on him? I'd love to take Oliver out on more outings. He's very friendly too...

Wow, how fun! I'm in private practice and my patients would never ever be able to focus if I had Oliver with me. Too funny! Just the visual of him getting into our serious conversations strikes me as funny. I'm so envious of you. If I had my druthers I'd have my white German Shepherd Sage (who sheds like the dickens) and Oliver (who poops like the dickens) with me 24/7. Lucky you!
