This month's theme...

"I Get To Love You"

This Thanksgiving month, I think is a good time to acknowledge what a privilege it is that we get to share our lives with our birds who bring us so much joy and love.

At the top of the list of things I am grateful for is the happy, loving home that I share with my very patient and indulgent husband, who doesn't mind being pretty much at the bottom of the pecking order!!

(One look at you,
My whole life falls in line.
I prayed for you,
Before I called you mine.)

I give thanks for my current flock and the abundant love that we share...

(Oh I can't believe it's true, sometimes,
Oh I can't believe it's true,
I get to love you...)

...and although it always breaks my heart to lose them, I will be forever grateful for the time I got to love the ones who are now gone.

(It's the best thing that I'll ever do,

Oh how beautiful you both are! Budgies are beyond wonderful, the way the manage to pack so much so much personality into their tiny little bodies! Thank you for your entry @OttoVonRuthless316, and I hope you and your baby are reunited very soon too

My budgie Joey does this, too, but Joey is pretty ordinary looking not brilliant yellow like Otto. What Joey lacks in photogenic beauty she makes up for in her sweet, loving personality but unfortunately pictures can't capture her inner beauty. Otto is stunning! I hope you're reunited soon. You two need each other.

Out of a Million, I Chose You

You were small behind the glass,
a dancer in a cage of silence.
Feet tapping, wings stretching,
trying to be seen,
while laughter passed you by.

They didn’t stop.
They didn’t see.
And I wonder if at night
you cried into the dark,
wondering if love
was only for others.

But fate is stubborn.
It waits for the right eyes,
the right heart.
And when I saw you,
I didn’t see “a pet.”
I saw a soul.
I saw you.

Out of a million,
I chose you.
Not because you begged,
not because you danced,
but because I knew
you deserved the sun.

Now you feel it—
warmth on your feathers,
light on your face.
You understand the world
not as a pane of glass
but as open sky.

You taste mango,
you crunch popcorn,
you curl into movies and memories.
You are not alone anymore.
You are laughter in the room,
you are joy in the small things,
you are proof that love
can rewrite a story.

And I am grateful—
grateful to be the one
who opened the door,
who gave you warmth,
who gets to walk beside you
as you discover
what it means to be free.

Awwwwwwwwww this is so sweet, it looks a LOT like snuggle time with Lovejoy!! Lovejoy however does not give me the courtesy of a squawk to tell me he wants to go poop I hope you'll please make it official, it's just too cute not to!!

She's so sweet and obviously loves you a lot! I think you'll need to be careful when she hits puberty not to stimulate her too much and make her think you're her mate. Eggs may follow.

I don't know enough about that, except only scritching on the head! She has a mineral block so hopefully if she does lay an egg she will be nice and strong.

Her eggs would probably be strong. What I see is cupping your hand like that and letting her snuggle against it while scratching her head. That's birdie nirvana for sure and may lead to something ypu don't want

I am SO very thankful to whoever it was who bought Peachie before I did, but took her back to the shop because they “couldn’t manage her.” Without them I would never have found this beautiful, funny, sweet and goofy little girl, and I’m so thrilled that I get to love her every day!!

I'm glad we got her too, even if she does poop on me every time she lands on my head, EVERY SINGLE TIME!! Still love her though
