Sun conure and a Cockatiel
I brought Luka home a week before Christmas from The Bird Shoppe. I love him so much already. He actually picked me:) Everytime I walked by his cage he would do something silly to get my attention. When I got him out he wouldn't let no one take me from him. I felt very honored he chose me. He is only 3 months old. They only fed him golden feast conure blend. Never any pellets. I have been trying to get him to eat zupreem, but he would rather starve before touching it. I try to feed him a variety of healthy thing that I eat, but he may take a nibble then backs away. He will eat apples, dried papaya, sometimes raisins but that's all. I keep a separate dish in his cage and put various types of fruit in it. I want him to have the best but I don't know what to do. Can anyone give me some advice? I would really appreciate it.

keep at it and mix his old food with the zupreem so he can pick and choose then you want to reduce the amount of his old food a little everyday. This is what we did to get ours from seed to pellets. They also have different types now Zupreem offers nut flavored, fruit flavored, natural, and veggie pellets. It can take a while but it is possible I have transitioned several seed junkies to pellets now. If that doesn't work try a different pellet food.

I have a Nanday Conure who prefers the next size up Zupreem cause it has more colors and shapes in it. So we feed the Conure and African Grey the same bigger ones, their favorite is the grape ones. try small bags until you get something that works!

Good luck!

Try carrots. They are Yogi's absolute favorite!

I'll second that!

My fids, even the rescued ones, took to Zupreem right away, and Tybbi - abandoned in a bathroom and given an all-seed diet - quickly dove in and recovered more quickly.

Personally, I would recommend the Zupreem Avian Entrees flavors of "Wild and Spicy" and "Harvest Feast". The "nut flavor" and other "___ flavor" blends didn't have as many dried vegetables mixed in, and more sugar.

Harrison's organic pellets are said to be even better...

And please avoid nutraberries as a staple item (as a rare treat, I still hand them out). The propylene glycol is an artificial sweetener, is highly addictive to parrots, and is also used in fun things like shampoo and anti-freeze. And, yes, the same ingredient is put into human food - often nonfat or low-fat products. Either way, if the same item can be used as hair gel, keeping a car from overheating, etc, then I probably don't want anything living to ingest it regularly... in small quantities, it's fairly benign, but I do love to worry...

Try dampening the Zupreem before giving it to him. I still haven't completely weaned my conure of seeds, but he has definitely been eating more since I began to wet them (I think it makes them easier and more fun to chew probably, as well as giving them some moisture out of it).

Where can I get zupreem avian entrees? Petsmart doesn't sell it ..only the fruit and natural flavors. I do appreciate all the advice. I'm so worried about doing everything the right way. Luka is my first parrot, and I love him like he's my kid:)

Have you tried sprouted seeds? They're so much better than normal seeds, and will get your parrot on the path to vegetables...

Eat the veggies and fruit in front of your parrot, and offer them some. It usually works. Ozzie my alexandrine would eat just about anything from my hand, as long as he saw me eating some thing, he wants to try it. Lol :D
