Joey - Yellow Crown Amazon, Ashley - CAG
Hey All, as you know I set out to adopt a CAG, thats still in the works, but in my travels today to the bird expo I was adopted by Joe, a 7 year old Yellow Crowned Amazon, Joes story was sad as many rescue birds stories are, his previous caretaker got married and his new wife didn't want anything to do with Joe, including allowing him to live in the same house with her, he was sadly banished to a small cage and placed in the garage for about 5 months with no interaction other than to be fed and watered, he at least was fed fruits and veggies regularly, some good friends thankfully rescued him from that situation and fostered him for the last couple of months, however the months of solitary confinement didn't serve Joe well as he became very mean and aggresive, who could blame him, anyway I saw poor Joe sitting there all alone at the end of one of the display tables and asked since he was clipped could I pick him up, I was warned repeatedly that he bit, not only bit, but bit viciously, anyone and everyone that had attempted to even open the cage door, just call me a sucker I guess cause I still wanted to at least give it a shot, well low and behold I call him to the door, he walks over to the edge, I say "step up" he does it without hesitation, takes two steps up my arm, places he beak on my forearm and lets me give him scritches on the back of the neck, the two guys that had been fostering him had the jaws drop to the floor, I said do you mind if I take him home?, they said that if I didn't they would hold a gun to my head until I agreed I would, its not often that a bird picks you as it being your new owner, especially one that come to trust no one, so there was absolutly no way I could say no, lets hope the honymoon lasts for me and Joe
