I just got my CAG today. I have 3 horizontal perches in his cage. I placed him in the cage for 1-4hrs and in this time he stayed on that one perch and did nothing(and I don't think this he was sleeping as I heard him chirp every once in awhile) How will he travel from perch to perch since he can not fly? He didn't seem the least bit interested in exploring his new cage and new toys today...

I also notice that when I whistle a song, afterwards he chirps. I think he is trying to mimic already but can't. He's only 16weeks. I think he's going to be a good talker someday!

Congratulations on your new baby!! He will climb to get around his cage. He is just a baby. He has a lot to learn. He should be a lot of fun & very entertaining for you. Keep whistling & talk to him if you want him to learn to talk to you. My Yellow Naped Amazon learned to say "Hello" the same day that I brought him home. He was not just a baby 'tho. He was around a year old. My African Gray was quite shy. He is probably just trying to get adjusted to his change in home.

I agree, he will climb around quite well without being able to fly, but is just getting used to his new surroundings. You can get one of those bendable rope perches too, to have something different from just straight ones for a little variety. It's also good for their feet to have various types/sizes of perches.

They're very ingenious climbers. My Ruby climbs all around her cage and even slides on the bars for fun.
