Hello amazon parents. A friend of mine asked me to take her friends amazon because she could not take care of it anymore and she couldnt find anyone to buy him. Problem is that he will need a lot of rehabilitating. I think we are his 3rd or 4th home and hopefully his last. The poor thing. We dont know his age but we know he is definatly at leat 4-5 bacause he is very yellow so he's in his adult colors. So I am going to be asking you all a lot of questions. He is our first amazon. Poor thing, she didnt even remember his name. He just came to us today so I dont want to freak him out by taking pics yet. I will do that at a later time. He was very nippy with his previous owner and drew blood many times. But in his defence she wasnt doing things very smart. He bit her twice in the mouth because she was trying to feed him with her mouth. Not talking bad about the lady i promise. She was just inexperienced. She even fed him chocolate. She is very old and didnt have the knowledge. But a lot was done wrong to the poor baby. So help would be great.

ask away, lots if amazon owners here. Take it slow, read body language. Amazon's tend to be very transparent if you pay attention. I see you have other birds so you should be just fine.

first questestion i guess would be is whats the difference in the Tres Marías and the magna. How do i visually tell the differece. The pics on the interweb arent very reliable. I am pretty sure he is one of them two going by what i have read. And second question is how loud are they REALLYYYY??? lol. Cant be worse then my macaws right????

not sure how to tell that. As far as loud goes, they have quite the call but I doubt louder than a macaw. Now if they all start calling at once your house is going to get loud. They love being the center of attention and the clow

We could use a clown. lol. One of our macaws is real quiet and hates me, one is a baby and loves to cuddle and my Timneh is a mooch. lol. A clown would be a nice change. I hope he learns to trust us.

I'm sure he will, Amazon's love their food.Mines a mooch too LOL

:red1::blue1::grey::greenyellow:We are looking into an outdoor cage for this summer. Im in upstate ny though so winter here is out of the question for our babies. We do take good care of our pets though. We them all very much. And always the most we can do. Weather it be cage, toy or food. We go the extra mile.

This one is a question for Henpecked!! Maybe you could send him a PM.

welcome and congats on your new baby:)

In terms of noise, our Panama amazon is our quietest parrot - he talks constantly, but it is the level of background noise. Our yellow crown is a bit louder, but not often.

Neither of them has the vocal gusto of the macaw or the cockatoo. So while the 'South American boys' all seem to feed off of each other & inspire each other to increase volume, the macaw is the loudest of them. [Then the Asia-Pacific guy chimes in & out-screams all of them!]

So the new guy might develop a greater vocabulary than the macaw, but probably will be quieter, once he settles in.
