Good morning all!

So I did a thing this morning...a huge thing...I bought (rescued) a B&G. He's 31 and fairly wild? I am able to handle him, rub his head and back (sometimes), he is a talker (sometimes), and he's come from a really bad situation. His first owner died of cancer a few years ago. The young lady I got him from found him padlocked in a dog cage in a closed room. He was gross and covered in feces. The young lady has had him 3 years I think and says he looks MUCH better. He's got bright color and an overgrown beak. He is eating crap food (from Wal-Mart) and now he's home with me.

I do have experience with birds, I have an African Grey, but I've never had a macaw. I will leave him alone this weekend, most of us are going camping anyway, so he will have time to settle in. He's got a huge, beautiful macaw cage, so that's good.

What have I done? LOL

Welcome! What a lovely thing you’ve done taking this guy in :). There’s tons of great threads on Macaws, and many Macaw owners to answer questions if you need. Hope you’ll share some pictures once he settles in a bit.

What a phenomenal rescue, you are wonderful! Thanks for giving him literally a new lease on life!!

That you have large parrot experience is going to be helpful; you'll find macaws quite different from greys. The Macaw Forum has extensive information, might search for threads by "Birdman666" who has extensive experience.

Good luck, let us know how the "honeymoon" period progresses!

LOL, nice one - we can shake hands (I am also a grey owner unexpectedly in charge of a B&G that is more or less a complete mess).

Good luck with that new guy in your life - I'd love to hear about your journey together.

You did a very noble thing in taking this mac into your heart and home! Good for you!

I highly suggest you read all of birdman666's posts about macaws in the macaw subforum! Highly useful information.

Welcome, come on in!

You sound like our kind of "people". Bless you for welcoming this macaw into your home. The advice to search out Birdman666 posts is VERY solid. It should be worth your time.

Again, Welcome you will find support here.
