Lucky, Quaker, abt 18/male?
Previous birds: 2 Quakers, 2 budgies, Nanday conure, Indian ringneck, 2 tiels, Red Lory, 300+ finches.
I just picked up our new QP today.

S/he was found in a fully equipped cage by the side of the road, in the middle of the night, late December 37F weather

The gal who rescued Aubrey has macaws and greys and an amazon, so wasn't wanting to keep a quaker. She saw my parrot wanted ad on craigslist and contacted me.

There is a band on Aubrey that says '02, but I think s/he's a youngster based on the smooth beak and head-bobbing. In great condition though.

Here's a pic before we brought Aubrey home...

Awww Aubrey is very cute:)

It seems like this was meant to be for you.

Awww, Congrats I know she will be well loved now.

A warm "welcome to the flock" to Aubrey, who is a fine-looking Quaker. :)

Thank heaven she has found a good home . Her story was horrible but someone had to love her a s she looks in great shape and a fully equiped cage. how could anybody just put her on the side of the road like that:(

Aubrey is really cage-protective (duh!) but quite a sweetie once out of it.

S/he does a kind of neck-waggle burp-up kind of motion once in a while. Not sure what that means. I get the vibe that s/he's very young. I haven't checked out the band yet, but the gal who had her thought it said '02. I wonder if it says '12 and the head waggle is some kind of baby thing.

I'll have to post more pics soon :)

"A match made in heaven" it was meant to be

What a beautiful looking bird
Glad Aubrey was not injured, sitting at the side of the road
Just imagine what was going through her little mind

There is a saying.....what goes around...... comes around

great looking little quaker! that is true that her story is kinda sad... :( mean people! but, at least you got the cage for free :D if you always look at the bright side of things that is. just so you know, birds dont have to be babies to head bob. they do it whn they are excited. quaker do a head bb type thing when they are babies like you said(hence the name quaker). but, you might be mixing up the head bobing and "quaking" if you record her doing to then i could tell you what it is. when she does the "burp up" this does anything acually come up? that could mean she is attached to you and wants to share food(gross, but thats what they do) cooper has done that a few times. anyways, nice looking little girl(or boy)! cant wait to hear how she settles in!!!!

I'm thinking along the same lines as mrgoogls-- it might be attempted regurgitation (some parrots just "go through the motions," and don't actually bring up anything, thankfully). Aubrey may also be doing the baby Quaker begging thing-- though mature QPs do indeed often continue head-bobbing. Ralph, at 3 years old, bobs his head to let me know he approves of something or wants something-- and he sometimes mock-regurgitates for me too. :)

I know the 'dating' kind of regurgitation :p Lucky does that if I pet her too much and she's in the mood. I politely tell her I don't feel that way about her and set her back on her cage :D

But Aubrey is doing his head waggle by himself, at random moments. It's a bit different from the head bob they do like they are saying yep yep yep agreeing with me. More like somthing stuck on the way down. Haven't seen it really today, so maybe just a nervous thing from being moved.

He's pretty timid so far. Afraid to come out of his hiding place in a fleecey tent if we get too close. But once we have him on our hands, he's really sweet and passive. Makes me wonder if someone was mean to him.

Our other quaker thinks he's a 'pretty bird'! Uh oh :54: I think tomorrow I'll see how they do closer together.

Aubrey is settling in just a little, and is a bitey little bugger!
I'm thinking he must have been teased by people, and had hands jerked away from bites. He's also trying to be very dominant, herding Lucky away from the cage door when we approach to pcik her up, etc.

We've started with a few minutes of laddering a few times a day, and taking him out of Lucky's sight. We had to trim his wings up pretty good, as the light trim still allowed him to fly at us when we got Lucky off the cage or tried to carry him to another room.

He seems to be angry with us, but is ok with Lucky. They spend some time courting, some time apart, and sleep in different areas of the cage. So I'm not too worried about how they interact. But boy howdy does he seem to have a grudge against people, and a real drive to have his own way.

We're just going to stick with consistency and positive interaction/reinforcement until he figures out that bad behavior isn't rewarding, that human attention is pretty cool, and we can interact with Lucky if we want to.

I remember Mark starting out pretty vicious, but that was 20 yrs ago and it's hard to recall just how long it took for him to turn cuddly....
