Gypse Blue and Gold Macaw
Hello

My wife decided she wanted a New bird and found this cute Blue and gray macaw, I think the breeder sold her too soon but she is doing great with us eating and drinking mostly on her own and is just the most adorable thing, about 2.5 months old so I am sure i will have tons of questions.

Welcome! Gorgeous baby.

Welcome to the forum. :)

At that age your wife's new bird can NOT eat on her own yet, and I can't understand why the breeder/store would let her go this young. :(

Hand feeding and raising macaws "can" be quite the challenge.

Good luck with her.

Oh those babies! Gotta love them. Gotta be on the ball with them. Good luck and congratulations on your new family member!

TY yes she is a little challenge but, so sweet, it is great watching her learn new things, and a lot of work finding the right information, there is so much bad Info on the internet glad a found this place seems to be a lot of knowledge here

I don't mean to sound like a negative nelly, but is your wife experienced and fully equipped in hand rearing birds?

There's a lot more to it than getting formula down her throat.

Temperature, consistency, amount of formula at each feeding, etc.

Many things can go wrong, even with the most experienced folks.

Keeping an eye on the crop, crop infection, slow crop emtyping, etc etc etc.

This is not something that can be learned online. It requires HANDS ON training, and lots of practice, along with a good amount of confidence.

First, welcome and congrats on your new baby.
BUT I'm so with Wendy on her opinion, and so many others here are also. I hate when I hear of breeders selling babies way too soon, and it really makes me mad when I hear that it's done by money grubbing retail stores as well. Shame on all breeders who irresponsibly leave hand feeding and weaning up to the new owner. Anyway, that's not your fault, so best of luck with your cute baby.

Welcome. Adorable baby. I have a B&G, too. She is 23 years now. I urge you to follow the advice in the earlier posts and don't take any chances.
