We went to pick up my Sun Conure last weekend and stopped at the local petsmart in Virgina after our 5 hour drive since we were early. I needed toys and such and we glanced in the bird cages like we always do to see what the store is selling. This little budgie just popped out to us and immediately started watching us and following us around in the cage....so we ended up taking home two parrots that weekend....my avian vet just rolls her eyes at us. She knows we are suckers...

Meet Cam! She is my mothers not mine (which I still find hiliarous since I had to beg for my first bird for a very long time...apparently she couldn't understand how I wanted something that I couldn't cuddle or handle often...:18:)

We think its a boy but can't really be sure (he has the purplish tint which is why we are thinking boy). He is super tiny. The other birds in his cage were twice his size or more and they were all around the same age. He is in a pretty tiny parakeet cage we bought him since the one we had was too big and he lost it, spent the whole night clinging to the top of the cage. Once he was in the new one he perked right back up and stopped thinking things were going to come from every direction to eat him.

I still can't believe we have a budgie...we always hated budgies but this one is changing our minds quickly!

Oh my goodness, was he that tame from the start? Little bird, big personality it sounds like. He's adorable. Congrats.

Yeah he was this tame pretty much right away. I was surprised but not completely since he had seemed to want to talk to us at petsmart. I know there are budgies who are really sweet but had never met one until now. We just had to stick our hand in the cage a couple times before he hopped right up. The first couple times we just stood there with our hands in the cage with him on it but today we took him out of the cage (the door is super tiny and we thought we would have to take the top off the cage to get him out but he just ducked through the door instead of hopping off). These are the pictures from today and he came home Saturday. He also spent all day today singing and talking to us.

Sounds like you have a super smart one there. That's great, so happy he found a home that appreciates him.

is he cute or what!! :p so cute. decided on a name yet?

Congrats!!! Budgies are wonderful sweet birds if tamed. I used to raise them years ago and yes it is rare to find them tame like that at pet smart and such places. But I did find one at Petco years ago that did the same thing and I brought him home.

You know I would be bringing home every bird, every kitten, every puppy I laid my eyes on if I didn't just force myself not to even look. We really have enough pets, but I found myself replying to an add about a pair of lovebirds an older couple wanted to rehome, and before I sent off the email, I looked at my four and I thought - spend more time with what I have (not to forget our 5 dogs and one cat) and I just didn't send it but I keep seeing their picture in my head lol. I got one angel on one shoulder saying 'You have enough' and a devil on my other shoulder saying 'GET THEM!' lol

He is so cute! What a great addition to your family:)

Oh my gosh! He/she is so cute! You lucky you got to come home with two! :)

Oh, he's a gorgeous little birdy! Cute, too. Congratulations, it sounds like you really have a special little guy there. He's gonna have a good home with you. :D

What a cutie! I don't care what anyone says, I think Parakeets are the stars of the parrot world. They come in all kinds of colors and almost any person can keep one. Sounds like you found your perfect little parrot.
