I have the opportunity to re home another GCC. It is from a home and not a store. The owner is allergic.

Should I quarantine if I bring her/him home?

Is it true feet color can sex a conure?

Thanks!!!!

I would say you should always quarantine when bringing in a new bird. As you know they hide illness very well, so even if the prior owner says the bird is healthy the truth is that they just don't know; you never know. I never take risks, having one sick bird is bad enough, having multiple sick birds is terrible...God forbid they get worse 😢.

I've never heard about sexing conures by feet color, though I have heard this about budgies, they often say if a budgie's feet are dark colored/gray/purple it's a male, and if their feet are lighter/Pinker it's a girl. I bred budgies for years and years and found this to rarely be accurate, so I wouldn't put much stock in it at all. THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW A BIRD'S (MOST BIRDS) SEX 100% IS A DNA TEST. Well worth the $25 or so.

What Ellen said!

We'll look forward to the new bird's story!

I love GCCs... if only the Rbird would let me have one... *sigh*

Gail, the RB sayeth and he meaneth.
OP - quarantine YES
Sexing GCC by feet color? Science says no, but if he lays an egg......and still has feet, he is a she.

I love you all! 13.. you got that right.

I am not adding her to my brood. I am just taming Sunny. He still scares my daughter who was not afraid of a Harliquin macaw.

I was told budgies can tell by the nare color, but not sure on that tale too.

Maybe you could just "sneak" one in without RB noticing at first...They're little!

Good call, and 100% accurate!

Budgies can be sexed by the color of their Ceres, but they have to be at least 10-12 months to be accurate, as the colors all start out pink at birth and change over the first year. When I look at my 7 budgies (6 males, 1 female) the males definitely do have darker, more purple skin on their feet and legs, the female's feet are almost white...I wouldn't trust this at all, but there you have it!
