"Sparky" the Blue and gold macaw, "Jax" Red fronted macaw, and "Little Bird" peach faced lovebird
So, after prepping for the Fl rescue situation, I had a new empty cage begging to be filled. I was half heartedly looking at ads on craigslist, thinking how much Sparky misses company. Well, low and behold I saw an ad for a red fronted macaw who looked like a love and off went an email asking more about him. I discussed with her all sorts of things and she invited me to come meet him. It was abundantly clear that she loved him and he had a great life with his original owner. We spent hours visiting and Jax came straight to me and stayed with me the entire time. He is just under 2 years old and is a super sweet outgoing guy. She asked me if I wanted him, and I told her that I had to think about it due to the money factor and she said not to worry about it, that I was a great home for him and off we went. He is now settling in, and I have a bunch of new ideas for my bird room! I can't believe my luck, or that Jax is such a sweetie!!!!:green1:

Congrats! Now where are our pictures??? :)

I will add some as soon as I can. He is settling in now.

Lucky duck they're the best! If you ever need to home him send him my way

Mara, its your Erin that piqued my interest in the red fronts, so its really kinda your fault! :)

So this is Jax, the tailess wonder bird. He broke his tail feathers since he is still a clumsy baby.

Congratulations :) :) :)
I just love the coloring of these guys , so beautiful !!

Too bad I moved away they could've had play dates being they're the same age :D

oo congrats he is so beautiful!! That is really kind that she adopted him out to you without a fee, knowing he was going to have a great home.

Congrats on having Jax join your flock! You are going to love their silly antics.

To do so means the owner cared more about the welfare of the bird than the money. I don't think owning an exotic bird is as common as owning a dog, so the owner felt the match was right. Congratulations!

Congratulations, Red Fronts are a great size macaws and have a awesome reputation of intelligence and great personalities combined. We adore our Zetta.:)

I love him already. He is a blast. The previous owner is a wonderful lady, we are both happy that Jax is able to be in a great home and that we can become great friends with the shared love of Jax.

Great story and congrats on your new baby.
Yes, broken tail feathers are very commons for baby birds, they fall a lot, it always amazes me how they survive in the wild. i guess they don't fall from trees much.
Macaws form very strong bonds with their owners so I'm sure you will have a great relationship with Jax.
Do your homework on making him a bird room and remember that birds are very social and love to be around it's owner much part of the day.
Macaws are not too expensive so I hope you do not face money issues. The most expensive thing when it comes to Macaws is Cage, playstands or gyms, toys, some foods, vet visits. I approx spend $1700.00 year for both my boys not including cages and playstands.
I'm not sure if you have taken a shower with your Macaw so if you have not, I would advise you to do so ASAP, they just love showers and this speeds up the bonding time for both you and your Macaw. Love the picture of Jax and best of luck to both of you. Joe

He's a nice looking bird...congrats!
