Quaker - named Blue, but actually green :D
Hi all I'm down in Australia, just brought home a Quaker named blue! We're looking to upgrade her cage to a larger enclosure but she's more than happy to be let out and hang around with us although not tame yet! Keen to learn what I can from bird owners here!

Welcome you found the right place to learn:) how old is your quaker?

G'day! Where in Oz do you live? There's a few of us here: I'm in Newcastle, NSW. :)

Hey thank you :) The store owner told me about 7 months, she still doesn't have all of her head feathers in yet and looks to be growing her tail feathers still.

Trying to figure out if letting her out of the cage is a bad idea when she's not tame enough to do a "step up". She'll take food from me every now and then but seemed like we were making more progress in the cage when she was there. Now that i've let her out a few times, she has very little interest in doing training in the cage...no idea if i should keep her in the cage until she's more hand tame? thoughts?

Welcome aboard Parrot Forums!

Our member who goes by the name of Laurasea is pretty much our resident quaker-whisperer here so I’d suggest you read anything and everything she has to say on that subject. She has three of them and there’s not much she doesn’t know.

I hope you enjoy your stay :)

Oh my goodness! Lol!
O admit they are my spirit parrot!

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on Blue!
I might want to see pics of head and tail, as feathers shod be in....

Quakers are very smart, very social, very LOUD, and as adults are going to be cage agressive.

I think k working outside the cage is fine. You want to get the mi d and body moving towards you. Shape behavior in small steps. Rituals and routine are important. Start working on foraging. Theses guys get bored they gonna screaming s d pluck. Feed lots if veggies, use veggies as big hunk of chew destroy stuff to, or stuff done seeds in a head if broccoli and use as foraging.
Lots of easy to shred stuff every day. If they can't easily pick it apart chomp off bits, it's not fun. They want instant destruction satisfaction!

Welcome to you and Blue, thanks for joining!!
