Parrots
senegal and rosey bourke
Hi,

My name is Pat Gillen, and am the current owner of 2 birds. One is a Rosey Bourke parrot and the other is a Senegal parrot. In the past, I have owned a CAG, a Goffin cockatoo and another Senegal. I also , as a child, had lovebirds, canaries and parakeets.
I have a question for you longtime members, I was recently given my Senegal, was told that he hadn't been handled for years or let out of his cage, because he bit and was too loud. Nothing could be further from the truth, I took him out immediately, and was able to cuddle with him, I have had him since Saturday and he is a pleasure!!!
My question is- he was found years and years ago-by the former owner- I do not know how old he is. He has a closed band that reads AI 1063. I have tried to discover how old he is, but need help in where to look- I would appreciate any help on the subject,
Thank you for listening to me and allowing me to join this group of bird lovers

Welcome to the forum:D.

I don't know much ways I can help you with finding out the age of your Senegal but maybe you should ask a CAV. They should be able to give a close estimate.

Also we do love pictures:)

Edit: also by cuddle do you mean touching the Senegal on his/her body? If so, you should only stick to petting his/her head and neck area. Touching them anywhere else may cause hormonal behaviors, which you don't want.

Hi and welcome! Hope you’ll share some pics of your flock with us :)

There is no central list for bird bands unfortunately. One of the most comprehensive that I’ve seen pulled together is at this link although I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the information (I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post a link to another forum here) A List of Breeders and Band Numbers | Avian Avenue Parrot Forum. AI is listed there with possible breeder contact info - so might be a place to start your inquiries.

A warm welcome to you and your feathered friends. Age is really difficult to pin down even for the pros, especially if you have no background. Some of our members are good at deciphering band code, hopefully some of them will be able to help. What are your birds’ names? We’d like to see photos of your fids.

Welcome. I'm glad you found us. It will be fun to follow your journey!

Welcome Pat.

You will find wonderful support and advice here. The parrotforum team have been a great help to me in assisting with Ellie's needs.

Welcome to the forums, Pat! Thanks for rescuing your senegal from a lonely fate. You may have been "chosen" as birds frequently do.

Wish I had advice for band identifications.
