Hello to All, I have come across this forum a few times but have not previously registered. There is a great deal of wonderful information on this site from experienced bird owners, so I thought I'd check in from time to time.
I have always loved birds, bred show English parakeets for a number of years, and adopted a three year old Goffin Cockatoo who is now age nineteen. A wonderful companion for me... but not so much for my husband, who sustained two pretty severe ear bites about five years ago. A sneaky ambush both times. We almost surrendered Mango but decided to change some things around and we have not had another incident for five years.
Everyone seems content now, which is great. I am going to jump back in to the thread that was discussing routines. For years I did not realize how important routines and set sleep times/conditions were for Mango. Once a really good structure was discovered, there were very few behavioral issues. Complicated creatures, our cockatoos!
