Parrots
20 Budgies in an Aviary
1 Quaker Parrot
Hello Parrot / Bird Friends,

My name is Tess Bentley, and I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I have an aviary of 23 budgies (which I recently added two canaries rescued from the SPCA) so they have kept me quite busy over the past year.

I have ALWAYS wanted a parrot and I was lucky enough the other day to phone one of our local Pet Stores to ask about a completely different issue, and he told me that he had 5 blue Quaker Parrots for sale if I would be interested! WELL ... my heart nearly jumped right out of my body!!

I immediately went there to have a look and my problem is HOW DO YOU CHOOSE because they were so beautiful. The one bit me so I sort of put him back down gently and as I did another one came towards me and just looked up at me! Needless to say I was smitten and Blu had a new home!

He has settled really nicely - he's 4.5 months old (they tell me approximately) and he's eating well - mainly fresh fruit and veggies. He absolutely LOVES grapes and apple. He's not too fond of his pellets - it seems to me that he actually struggles to eat them??

He loves playing with his all of the toys in his cage. He is a little clumsy but I need to figure out a better way so he can climb up and down of the cage with more ease.

He also likes to be taken out of the cage but he does try to fly but his wings were clipped (or should I say hacked!) by the pet shop so need to let them grow. I am still deciding whether to flight him or keep them clipped.

I hope to keep you all posted on my little boy's progress (by the way I haven't sexed him, he just seems to be a boy):whiteblue:

Welcome, Tess!
Give your little one a pile of coffee stirrers and watch him go nuts!

Welcome Tess and Blu, thanks for joining our family! Blu "chose" you and that bodes well for establishing a relationship.

You'll find being owned by a parrot complimentary to your budgie aviary. We call it MBS; Multiple Bird Syndrome! Thankfully there is no cure!!

We love pics, and be sure to ask questions/post concerns with Blu.

Congratulations! Welcomed to the forum!
I wonder if BLU might be younger than that...at 4 months old he should be able to climb with ease, unless was in a cage with no perches before. If he is that babiesh he might be 7-12 weeks old.
Maybe you can post a pic? Click go advanced under the text box and paperclip a pic from your phone it will show up as a thumbnail under the text box when you post.

Welcome and be welcomed.

Uhhh..... you already have 23 parrots, cuz bugies are parrots too, which most folks forget. The world record for the most words said is held by a budgie. But your new Quaker will certainly show you more of the parrot world. Good luck!

I am still fascinated by how many words come from such a tiny little ball of fluff! [emoji172]
