Yellow Crowned Amazon
Hi there,

I have the pleasure of owning a Yellow Crowned Amazon called Armani. He was born in April of this year and has been the most amazing addition to our household.

He has a great character (quite similar to my own it turns out) and keeps us entertained for hours.

He is well so******ed and is generally well behaved with everyone in the house. He has taken to me more so than my spouse however we seem to be getting the balance right introducing him to our flock rather than letting him run the roost.

I just want to know I am giving Armani the best training so any help and tips would be greatly appreciated.

He speaks really well and has a variety of entertaining things to say.

I look forward to connecting with you all over the coming months and no doubt years.

Hey Armani, and welcome to the forum. I don't have Yellow Crowns but several Panamas (among many others) which look very similar, Great birds with the best personalities. The best advice i can give is to include him in as many activities as possible and of course join a good parrot forum (like this one) to learn more about your new baby, congrats on a great choice in a parrot. PS I'm sort of bias towards Amazons. Oh yeah, you know we're gonna bug you for pics and vids.

Hi everyone,

What a wonderful introduction from you all.

I have already put up some pictures of my amazing little man in the album on my profile so please feel free to have a look. I am so proud of him I love to show him off and so happy to have people who are genuinely interested in him.

I have learnt so much already from this site especially about his nippy behaviour. I had a lady tell me to scold him which goes against my principles and noticed his behaviour got worse, I have read some wonderful advice on here which I have applied and noticed my bird is happy and back to normal.

Thank you for such a warm welcome.

Loved the pics. Someone needs to tell Armani that the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car though. If your having issues with the nippyness start a topic under Amazons and give us all the history you can, When it happens ,why you think it happens, his environment, usual schedule and all that kind of stuff. The more info the better advice.

Thank you. We are in the UK so the steering wheel is on the opposite side to you guys.

Hello and Welcome to the forum! Armani is gorgeous!! I love this forum and I am sure you will as well. I always get very excited to read the New Members section of this forum and meet new people who have the same passion as I have.

Thank you Lacey, your Cockatoo is gorgeous. So cuddly. We are thinking about getting a second bird for my partner in the new year as she has always had Cockatoo's and thinks they are much more cuddly than our young man.

Thank you so much! I adore him! Has your partner ever owned a Umbrella Cockatoo or ever been around them? Don't get me wrong, I love my U2 and would never regret him, however they are not for an inexperienced parrot owner such as I was. I was lied to in every way imaginable when I was looking into getting my Reno. Once I got him, it did not take long to figure out that I was way over my head. Thank goodness for some amazing people and their knowledge. I would never try to turn someone against any parrot I just urge you to do some research and ask lots of questions before getting one. Cockatoos are the number one surrendered bird. They require an extreme amount of attention and are very prone to behavioral issues. I spend tons of time and money on toys that he will have destroyed within minutes. Their beaks equal to 250 pounds of pressure and their screams can equal pretty close to a jet.

As for a parrot for your partner, that is a fantastic idea in theory, but as with any bird you never know who they will bond to. Please don't think I am trying to turn you away as, as you can see I am very much in love with my boy and they are very affectionate birds. I would be willing to help with any questions you may have.

Welcome to you and Armani! I had the pleasure of sharing 40 years of my life with a YCA named George, and I wouldn't have traded a single minute of those 40 years for anything. I'm sure you'll feel the same way about your life with Armani. :)
