My SC2 Cookie was 13yo when I rescued her from RSPCA. She was missing her owner and had abandonment issues.
One of her bad behaviours was screaming for attention. I started to whistle to her when she screamed. In 2 to 3 days she would stop screaming and start whistling back. I would reward this change by getting her out.
Within a few weeks the screaming stopped and Cookie would just do our whistle to get my attention. I never went to her when screaming, but tried to always respond to the whistle. This was a huge and positive change.
Because Cookie loved her previous owner and then lost her she was quite a demanding bird.
I found that involving her as much as possible in everyday life she soon learned that she had a new forever home and was able to occupy herself more.
Things that helped Cookie were doing whatever I was doing eg: helping me cook dinner, coming out in the sun while I hang washing (cookie had wings but was scared to fly, I know not all birds can do this), coming from room to room while I tidy, she would hide under beds and stuff. Laying on the lounge at night was a favourite.
Another favourite that occupied her for hours was a big container of dirt that I planted sprouting seed mix in. Cookie would sit for hours foraging and excavating dirt. I highly recommend this as a play idea. Because cookie didnt fly she would walk herself through the back yard to go to her sprouts. Im sure this idea could be translated to an indoor smaller scale if needed.
Good luck
