Hello everyone :)
I joined here a couple weeks ago, but mostly I have just been lurking and reading as much as I can! You all have so much experience and wisdom to share. Many years ago I had a two parakeets named Chiquita and Tequila. I don't have a bird currently, but am hoping to get one in the near future, so right now I'm setting up a cage, getting toys, birdproofing the house, etc. I'm leaning toward a green cheeked conure, but also considering another parakeet(s), or a cockatiel. I kind of fell in love with a 1 yr old male gcc at Sugarcreek bird farm a couple weekends ago. <3

Q: with all the fun toys out there for birdies, how does one NOT just spend ALL of one's money on them!? XD

Welcome, PieMaster! After going to a rescue to look at my future B&G, I found that some people will make their own toys! That's my plan, anyway. Check them out online and in the pet stores, then go nuts. A few pieces of wood, some pvc, natural leather from the shoe repair place and have a blast. Best of luck in finding your new feathered friend!

By making your own out of found wood and spending all your money on tools instead :)

When you figure that out could you let me know please?
Welcomed to the forum and good luck choosing your new companion!

I hear great things about Sugarcreek! I used to live right near them in Ohio (In Chicago now). Good luck and welcome!

Welcome. Sounds like the green cheek stole your hear already. ;) Sometimes following your heart works out best.

Parrot toys are ADORABLE. The cage looks like Mardi Gras all the time. I buy toys usually and then what i do is collect pieces that get chewed off or take the good parts off 'dead toys' and make new toys out of the old ones. Frankentoys!

They are so curious that they will turn your laptop or remote control or cell phone into a toy if you aren't careful.................

Frankentoys???? Hahahaha i am totally going to start making Frankentoys!!!!!! Love it!!!!!

Welcome to the forum! I LOVE greencheecks, such great birds!

Check out mysafebirdstore.com lots of great toy parts there. I'm planning out a fairly big order soon to stock up on all the supplies I need, such a great store :D

Thanks for the welcomes, and those are all great ideas. Yeah, the cage looks like a carnival already! I have access to TONS of "found wood" and I will be having a good look at this mysafebirdstore. I do like to make things.

I went back to visit my little friend today. They told me he is not actually tame and has not been handled at all (?!), but he did come over to hang out, and ate banana off my finger with very little persuasion. He also tried to lick/eat my finger, but just out of curiosity I believe!
