No Need To Lie!!!

I know Ive been posting alot about my newest birdy Paco, sorry if it's getting old to anyone lol. I just need to vent a little. Im the only person I know that loves birds so no one I know really can relate. I dont understand why people lie just to sell a bird. I was lied to so I would take Paco. And she didnt need to lie, I would have taken him out of that place anyway. I just dont understand why people lie when it would be so helpful if we knew the truth about the bird, no matter how ugly or bad it may be. Doesnt make sense to me. Goes to show money is more important to some people then the well being of their bird, or any animal for that matter because people do it with dogs and cats too!

Just curious, what was the lie? I was told Sully and Bella were great parents but turns out they are only good parents up to two weeks then they stop taking care of the babies.

I am curious, as well. Hoever, we all know that people lie to get you to do anything! Whether they're selling you an animal, a car, a house, or anything. To make the sale, many people will tell you what they think you want to hear. There is an old saying..."Buyer Beware!" This is where your intelligence, research, and discretion come into play.

We were told our amazons were a male and a female and we've been wondering if they aren't both girls judging on their behavior. Honestly, the guy may have thought they were male and female since he got them from someone else, but then again he may have just been lying too. Either way, like you, we would have still bought them just to get them out of the situation they were in.

*oh yes she does fly and bite your face, attack for no reason, she made a real mess of your dads bald head, but thats his fault for teasing her and so on!

i don't think it would have changed me from giving her a home, but all i knew, was nut would live for another 30yrs plus, how hard can a bird be to keep??

the omg she needs what?? omg she'd chewed what?? and my response to the vets receptionist of *omg i am only bringing in the ONE bird not a flock, let along the risk assessments for what mood/season she is in, what guests are coming to house etc, the list goes on, but i am so glad i was never told, though i was uber annoyed to begin with, as the attacks where really nasty, and we were not prepared for them.

if i had been told, nut would not be with us, my brother knew once the nut, came through my door, she'd have a home for life, he also know that she'd be as sweet as honey, till the honeymoon period was over! :09:

so if my brother had been completely honest, i would not have this wonderfull winged demon, in my life, (currently she is an angel :21: till nov comes along:43

The woman I got Paco off of just lied about everything. I think the only thing she was honest about was his breed and he's molting. She lied about him loving fruits and vegs, it's very obvious he's never even seen fruits and vegs. She told me he was a real sweetheart once out of his cage LIE! It's all of the little things that I asked her about his personality that she completely lied about. She didnt have to, I would have taken him anyway. I just wish she would have been honest. It would have helped me and him. I feel for the birds she still has there. I hope they are being treated better than Paco was. This poor bird was put in a room by himself with no toys in his cage, it's no wonder he's the way he is.

It doesn't surprise me in any way that she lied about that stuff. People like her lie, in order to get what they want out of or from us. The majority of people would have seen the condition he was in, had heard the truth, and walked out of there without him. That's the sad truth. Paco was just lucky enough to have found you and no some other person who would have tried to find him yet another home almost immediately after discovering what you have.

I agree Katherine. I couldnt have walked away. She would have sold him to anyone that showed up with the money tho, I was lucky enough to be the first one to show up. I have to admit it's been a struggle. It's sad to see a bird so young be so afraid of everything, and to not know how to play with toys. Today is the second day I was able to get him out and have him ontop of the cage. I can tell he's never had the experience. Im taking it day by day with him. Im going to start clicker training in a couple days, wish me luck

That's NOT always a lie! Java's previous momma give him fruits and veggies but he throws them out and won't eat them. She told me he does it, BUT when he came to my house he start eating them. Java is a real sweetheart with her but he started being evil with me just to get his way! Several of my birds is totally different then what they were like in their previous homes cause I watch the previous handlers handle them. You can not bring a bird home and expect the same thing he was doing with his previous handler! You must let them adjust and let them know your all right. They will blossom into a wonderful bird. The lady may have lied about some things but you can't blame her for everything cause there's some truth to it. In the end, we're all just glad they're with us.

Trust me some of my birds were in bad shape when we got them so we know what it feels like. Scooter was attacked with another bird or something. They said they got her that way and had her for a long time. I'm sure part of it is true, BUT when I find blood scabs on her head where her feathers are gone, I know he was lying to me partly. He said she wasn't friendly, the moment I brought her home she hop right onto my arm and is one of my sweetest girls now. She steps up to me like she's done it for years. So I know it's not always true what they say. But I'm happy we have her now.

With most of my birds I will open the cage right then and there except Java since I know he will do fly attack with someone else in the room other then me. He's very protective of me. BUT the lady does sound fishy not wanting to take him out so you can see how he's like before you take him home, it's like taking a test drive.

Lot's of luck! My two had toys, but really didn't know how to "play" with them. Loki had never seen a fresh food in his life, now, he clamors to see what we're eating or what I'm making while in the kitchen. He may not eat fresh things out of his bowl (unless it's grapes!) but he'll eat anything we give him at the table now.

Sugar is also fearful of everything. Part of it is the adjustment. Remember, this is all new for Paco. So even if it was stuff he was familiar with, his reaction may not be as though it is because it's in a new environment, as was pointed out to me by someone here when I mentioned how fearful Sugar has been.

I hate when people don't tell you everything about an animal you are getting. We adopted a German Shepherd from a lady. He looked a little thin and the house was nasty. We felt really bad for him and we were looking for a male german shepherd so we took him. Turns out, the reason the house was so nasty is because the dog had a mega esophagus and was vomiting all the time. Really? You couldn't tell us this before we took him! Now, we loved that dog and did everything we could for him. But she should have told us he was vomiting all the time, even if she didn't know why!

I have taken in birds that the previous owners warned me they couldn't take out because the bird was a biter, or aggressive. And when I took them, they were sweet & happy. I've also gotten severly attacked by others "loving baby". I'm not defending anyone, I'm just saying that birds do act differently, eat different things, scream more (or less), are more (or less) aggressive, whatever, depending on how they feel with you. How they are with one person, is often totally different than how they are with someone else. And I've handled a lot of birds from a lot of different situations.

I'm not defending anyone, I'm just saying that birds do act differently, eat different things, scream more (or less), are more (or less) aggressive, whatever, depending on how they feel with you. How they are with one person, is often totally different than how they are with someone else. And I've handled a lot of birds from a lot of different situations.

Its true, I have had birds that love me and birds that HATE me, but were different with others. That being said, I can't tell you how many times at the clinic that people broght in dogs that they were told were a different breed, age, health ect when they got them. I ended up with a horse that they said was ridable (green broke) but the ground was dodgy, and I'm a trainer so I took their word, since they "seemed" honest. I did all the groundwork as usual and the horse was fine. I got on and he froze, then flipped. I could have died, and the horse was badly scared. He never got over it and ended up hurting himself. It was a shame, cause I could have prevented it but I didn't have the knowledge. Knowledge is key with any animal, but honesty has to be a part of it to keep everyone safe and happy.

The owner got her out of her cage with large garden gloves... I said 'give her to me', and she snuggled right in... This bird also has yet to bite me...

Obviously these owners didn't want the birds... and made up stories about their aggression - or maybe they really were aggressive to them, which I find hard to believe...

Birds can also read a body language, much like dogs. If they sense or see that a person is fearful of them or not comfortable with them, they are going to react in kind. They probably did bite their previous owners, but most likely because their owners gave them the reactions they were looking for, or they could sense the fear and in their own fear, the bird bit. That's my best guess.

I couldnt see how he was with her because she wouldnt even get him out of the cage for me, so I had to towel him even tho I really didnt want to, considering I just met him. Just by the looks of his cage and her house I wanted to take him.
