We just had a pet bird pass-away from an Air-Fryer I believe last month, and there was a long thread about them, with people asking the same question, "Is there a safe Air-Fryer that doesn't contain any non-stick coatings that contain any of the Perfluorinated Compounds that are lethel, such as PFOA, PTFE, etc., or contain actual brand-name Teflon coating?"...I'm not sure what the end-result of that thread was, but I know that most of the Air Fryers that people were talking about were not at all safe, they seemingly all contain lethal non-stick coatings...
If you do a search in the search-bar on the main page of the forum directory for "Air Fryer" you should find that thread, I believe it was from February, possibly January. But I'm pretty sure that everyone came to the conclusion (after actually calling several manufacturers of different Air Fryer models and asking them if they were "bird-safe" or if they contained any of the lethal compounds) that Air Fryers are just bad news, just as Wrench has explained above...
***The ONLY safe way to choose ANY small appliances for a home with a bird in it is to write down the brand, model name/number, and then directly call the manufacturer's customer-service number and directly ask them 3 different questions:
-Is this product "Bird-Safe" (more and more companies are starting to classify using this term)
-Does this product contains any Teflon at all?
-Does this product contain any Perfluorinated Compounds in it at all, such as PFOA, PTFE, or any of the many others?
Many times they won't know if the product is "Bird-Safe" or not, but more and more they are using that term, so obviously if they say "No, it's not Bird-Safe" then you can hang-up and cross that product off your list.
Teflon is actually a brand-name, not a chemical or compound, and all manufacturers will definitely know whether or not their products contain any Teflon or not because they have to pay the manufacturers of Teflon to use their product. So if they say "Yes, it does contain Teflon", then you cross that product off your list.
***Often times when you call a manufacturer you will get to question #3, because these manufacturers are just recently starting to understand how important this issue is, and how much business they are losing overall by using Teflon and other unsafe non-stick coatings. So it's still common for them to not know whether a product they make is "Bird-Safe", and many companies have stopped using any Teflon in their products because it's obviously the most widely-known brand-name of these non-stick coatings...So you will often get to question #3, and it's important that you ask them if their product contains ANY of the many PerFluorinated Compounds which can off-gas toxic fumes when they reach certain temperatures, such as PFOA, PFTE, etc. THERE ARE MANY MORE OF THESE PERFLUORINATED COMPOUNDS OTHER THAN JUST THESE TWO, SO IT'S IMPORTANT THAT THEY TELL YOU THAT THEIR PRODUCT DOESN'T CONTAIN ANY PERFLUORINATED COMPOUNDS AT ALL...
And if they can't tell you that their product is totally 100% free of any and all PerFluorinated Compounds, then you just cannot buy that product. Period.
