hey everyone. Today or tomorrow I'm going to put my cat Number 5 to sleep :( (we call him Number 5 because he was the 5th of the litter we caught, it is his real name, he is not a number to us that's just what we call him, he is beloved family member). He has a severe urinary blockage and he is on a catheter. If this works the next step is a surgery costing thousands of dollars my family doesn't have. The surgery is also very risky because the anesthesia could kill him in his condition. This is the second time he blocked up, the vet said it gets worse very time. He is getting worse, and even if we could afford the cost of all this, it still might not help, so we have decided to put him down. This is the second time I am putting a cat to sleep and the second time he got blocked up. Number five is the sweetest cat in the world, I cant remember him ever hissing at us, and not once did he even try to scratch us. He is terribly shy, so skittish you wouldn't believe it (we took him from outside when he was a kitten, he never really tamed down). Ever so often he would let you pet him and be the sweetest thing in the world. he would purr like a lion and let you pet him, but only very early in the morning and very late at night. Him and best friend/brother kieran are inseparable, never one without the other. I will miss him so much and this is so sudden, I'll update you guys when i get back.

I am so sorry It is an awfful choice but sometimes there is no alternative you do what you have to and I am sure he has had a good life with you. Alison and sweetie pie.

thank you for kind words

Awe, I am really sorry to hear about your kitty. Letting go of them is so hard but sometimes that is that only thing we can do . You gave him a wonderful life with lots of love and he will always be in your heart.

I'm so sorry you had to make this decision but I'm glad you are doing what's best for him. You gave him a wonderful life and I'm sure he understands that.
I'm so sorry.

thanks everybody, it really means allot to me. We are going to put him down tomorrow night. I just feel so bad because he's such a scared cat and I'm afraid hes terrified now in a strange place. I also wonder if the surgery would work, what if it does? If we had the money we would know. Also, i was finally getting him to come around he he was trusting me. Then I slacked on it and we backtracked, I were so close to him trusting me. When i go to say good by to him, i dont want him to be afraid of me :(.

I'm so very very sorry. Hugs!!

Dearest ann,
I am so sorry about your situation. I know that there is always that what if..., but if you spent the money and it worked, would you be able to pay house bills. The money you spend on your pets? You would be so stressed that you would not even have time to spend with the little kitty. That is not an atmosphere that a heavily populated house needs.

You worry that he will be afraid of you? But he is just afraid on the outside. On the inside he knows and thanks you for everything you have done. You have feed him, cared for him, loved him, and do not think for a second that he doesn't acknowledge that. You do not have to be physical when you say good bye to him. Tell him how much he means and how much you love him, and trust me it will be just as heart felt as any petting could be.

Even though you may feel like you didn't do all you could to save him, know that you did. I do not think that spending all the money into the cat would do anyone any favors. do not think about the what if, think about the what you know. From what you say, I know that you had a cat that was fearful of the world, but deep down loved you and all you have done.

ann, you have helped so many sould on this forum, and my prayers go out to you and your *happy* bunch. What was meant to be was meant to be.

Thank you guys so much for your support! Today we put him down, it turns out he probably wouldn't have recovered and the surgery might not have worked anyway. Normal cat blood work is around 3 and his was 18! he also had crystals in his bladder, a bladder infection, and his kidneys were failing :(. He went quietly and peacefully, and we buried him in our backyard where i can always visit him :0). Thank you guys so much for helping me through this difficult time.

If that beautiful kitty had to leave, I am happy it do so in such a peaceful way.

Sorry for what you are going through, it is tough and heart breaking.
You have made the correct decision, no more suffering.
Be strong......
In my thoughts and prayers

I grew up with many cats, so I feel your pain. We took in a stray that was healthy for years, and out of the blue developed some kind of blockage. It was too late in the evening and the vet was too far, he died in my mothers arms.

RIP Number 5. I hope there are millions of toys in kitty heaven.
