My younger two gccs wouldnt eat very much variety.. but now that I have an 8 year old gcc, they are interested in a lot of what he eats.

My pineapple gcc is extremely malnourished, I think its because she came from a really crappy petshop..

I was wondering, how many nutriberries should each bird eat a day?
its the only consistent thing my younger two have been interested in..

It is acceptable to feed it daily right?

I have a mixture of several conure foods I've put in one bag that I offer daily.. but they just eat the seeds out of course.

I read somewhere that I should feed as many nutriberries are they will eat.. but eventually wont that lead to obesity?

I've gone through the half that was left of one bag of nutriberries and a quarter of a new 3 lb bag of nutriberries in about 15 days!
They are too expensive and dont seem that healthy.

I'm going to buy some multivitamin drops.. any recommendations?

I'm also going to buy millet in bulk (mostly for my cockatiels and parakeet) cuttle bone in bulk, and nutriberries in bulk.

also, does it matter what kind of nutriberries? should I specifically get the kind for conures or will the original work?
I plan on buying a 20lb box of original nutriberries and a few bags of different flavor ones

My avian vet said 80% nutriberries and 20% fresh veggies was a great daily diet. Nutriberries are made up of all the items that pellets are made from except they are not ground down into pellet form. My main concern with nutribeerries is the corn syrup.

I feed my sun nutriberries, roudybush and harrisons pellets along with fresh veggies every day.

My understanding with multivitamins is that if they eat a balanced diet of pellets and veggies they will not need a multivitamin. I would ask your vet for more tailored information, though. :orange:

I dont feed any nutriberries, basiclly my conure he eats almost the exact diet has my eclectus but he has pellets and a little more nut in his diet than her. I believe i give him on average 80% fruits and veggies i chop almonds, pecans, walnuts and a few pumpkin seedsand sprinkle on his food and have a small pot of pellets for him if he wants them. He loves peppers hot peppers, red peppers, and he loves pomagranates but those are so expensive here like 5 dollars each ouch..

My eclectus was very malnurished and supplements are a no no for them however i had to when i first got her she was that badly manourished the vet put her on a supplement called boost. Now her diet is fixed so she gets no supplements at all.

I know a conure is not an eclectus but that boost i believe really helped my eclectus she was on an all seed diet by her previous owner triskets and seeds. so she was transitioned to harrison pellets, boost and lots and lots of fruits, leafy greens, peppers, legumes, cooked bean mix and whole grain rice. Now she has no supplements or pellets you might want to enquire about boost only the vets sell it around my area

It is my understanding that once a conure is eating seeds, it will eat little else. having said that, I would feed them as many nutri berries as possible. You can break them up into their seed dish, try and remove all sunflower seeds as they are fatty and not good for them. You can substitue them for saflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, any healthy nut. Harrisons mash is great for adding into the seed mix. It's in a powder form and they will digest some as they eat their seed. It's not expensive either. You can purchase it on line or your local vet. You can't go wrong with a vitamin supplement for birds, particularly if they are not eating a balanced diet. they come in powder form or a liquid. I would go on line and research vitamins, or go to your local pet store.

Nutraberries, IMHO, should be given as treats ONLY. Please avoid them as a main diet staple. One ingredient in them can be very addictive due to its hyper-sweet flavor...

...This magical ingredient is the same super-sweet glop (and preservative) that can be found in no-fat sour cream, no-fat cottage cheese, shampoo, antifreeze... shirts (polyester)... it's something that is not good for humans to eat... especially in large quantities...

Propylene glycol is the toxic compound in question. It's versatile, but as a foodstuff?!

Not all companies that sell pellets contain put that toxic garbage in their pellets either. (depends on flavor as well... I prefer real fruit to "natural fruit-flavor" any day, note the key word "flavor", which lets the marketing people get away with misadvertising... hey, if it tastes like grape but contains very little grape but more substances that simulate the flavor of grape...)

So please do read the ingredients label before buying...

ATSDR - Toxic Substances - Propylene Glycol

Unnecessary Harmful Preservatives | Max and Ruffy's

I use Zupreem, but will be migrating to organic food as my stock runs out. The Zupreem Harvest Feast blend has a lot of grains and dried vegetable matter, but while it did have some synthetic compounds in there, no propylene glycol was found. The Wild & Spicy blend also lacks propylene Glycol. Their Fruit Blend has it, if I recall...

Many "edible" perches have propylene glycol as their second or third ingredient. The ingredients are (typically) arranged in most- to least-used quantity, so if glycol is near the top it should be avoided or used very sparingly (IMHO).

Welcome to the forum:)

I give my Zon 3 Nutriberries per day.

Welcome to the Forum! I provide my GCC's all the pellets as they will eat on a daily basis. I just switched from Roudybush to TOP (Totally Organic). They loved Roudybush and they switched right to TOP without any problems.

In the morning they get a serving of mixed veggies (corn, peas, string beans & carrots) and I will toss in a green grape and a slice or two of apples. Sometimes I add a bit of peaches and pear slices. Almost forgot that they LOVE bananas!

Through the day they eat the pellets and in a separate dish I also offer a seed mixture but they tend to eat way more of the pellets.

For dinner they get a Bean Cuisine mixture with some fresh sliced red, green, & yellow peppers, carrots and either Kale or parsley & sometimes celery if available.

At night in the cage I also leave a offering of pellets and seeds in separated dishes.

Because I have recently gone to TOP's and they are not stocked with all the vitamins found in Roudybush I also provide them a vitamin supplement.

For snack and treats I occasionally offer Nutri-berries but they really don't crave them and I also give them Avi-Cakes which they enjoy. Oh and they LOVE walnuts so they get a few of those daily and always an almond or two.

BTW, they both get weighed every morning. Molly is 67 grams and Cody is 63 grams. They are both very active and the only time spent in the cage is at night or if I have to leave the house for a few hours.

Hope that provides some help!
