Obsessive nest making and hormonal behavior

I keep her in the dark, in a walk-in closet, for 12 hours at night: from 6pm to 6am.

I think that might help, a little, but she is still obsessive about nesting. She is always looking for a place to nest, and always looking to shred paper to put in her tail feathers.

She still does this "dance" where she spreads her wings, lifts her tail, and dances in circle while chirping.

About a year ago, she almost died when an egg she was forming broke inside her.

I don't think you can stop the hormones unless you feed her poorly, which is not a great solution. I had my peach face (male) for 7 years old he still "loves" everything fluffy, like kleenex, teddy bears and... cat. He's active as he was 2 years old.

Hormones can be a pain....there are shots available....I lost a Cockatiel awhile back from laying when she's not supposed to anymore as one almost killed her at one point but I was home when it happened and I was able to catch it in time to save her. This time she did it when I wasn't home and it took her life this time....Have you tried changing to a different cage completely with new sets of toys, etc??? Get a cage that's got high bottom where she can't go through the grate to go after the paper or anything she can shred to make nesting materials with. Basically bounce from cage to cage to disrupt their routine where everything is new again.
