Okay, so, my Quaker has been doing something lately that is puzzling to me! He comes to work with me every day, where he has an extra cage set up. The past few days, he's been climbing down to the bottom of his cage and sitting in the back right corner.

He sits like this and sometimes puffs up and makes noises ranging from small happy squeaks to squeals to shrieks. He'll walk around in a little circle sometimes, and maybe bob his head a little bit too. He is not regurgitating though.

I really don't think he's ill... He's always liked exploring the bottom of his cage(s), he's eating like normal, vocalizing like normal, he steps up like usual, etc.

Is this a hormonal thing? He is a DNA sexed male. He recently started humping his happy hut, and after a few nights of that I took it out.

Any ideas?

In Conures it's normal, I'm not sure about Quakers sorry.

If its the same as this (at the 40 second mark) I wouldn't worry. My bird does it about once a day.

does he do that at home? Maybe he is trying to build a nest, quakers are huge nest builders, and you daid he was hormonal. I would only be worried if he starts sleeping and fluffing up on the cage floor.hope i helped and good luck :)!

It's not quite like that... He's squeaking the whole time, and moves around a lot quicker.

Yeah, I thought it might be a nest related thing. We watch that awesome Quaker on YouTube, the one with the HUUUGE nests. Is this something to be encouraged or discouraged? I have considered giving him scraps/sticks, but I wasn't sure.

Certainly you can give your Quaker some building materials! :) MY QP Ralph has fun arranging and rearranging his "sticks," which are thin wooden dowels between 6" and 9" long. Once he gets them set up the way he wants them, he squawks for me to pull them apart so he can build again. :D Other things, like plastic drinking straws, can also be offered (though Ralph prefers to chew up the straws instead of building with them).

Erm, I hate to break it to ya,
But he could be, erm....... (trying to find a suitable euphemism, failed).............

He is Masturbating!

Hey at least he is enjoying himself right?
Its very common, but the weird thing is the tail up in against the wall is typically a more female way to do it. Maybe you just have a very liberated bird!
