I live RIGHT next to the fire station. Here, every time a 911 call is made the fire truck responds because that is the emergency vehicle the EMTs drive, or some such thing. We dont have an ambulance, just a fire truck, so at least once a day the fire truck goes screaming past. And every time, while my Pionus, conures, IRN, ad budgies sit quietly, all the cockatiels scream their heads off. It amuses me, and I always think about sharing it with you. Do the rest of you notice one species in your home reacting more vocally to outside noises than others?

WOW that would made my head spin !! My male Ekkies don't like any sort of commotion [sound like bullhorns going off].

Yep, my sympathies. I have a Grey and I also live right down the street from our local FD. Fortunately, it's a small town so it doesn't scream down the street regularly but enough to be "appreciated" by my bird, who does a PERFECT rendition of its siren (almost indistinguishable from the source). I live with a fire truck in my living room.

My Grey also makes the alarm sound to my car. A few months ago, my husband accidentally set off my car alarm. He came in all embarrassed about it, apologizing profusely. Now, every single time my husband walks in the door, my Grey repeats that alarm (perfect in pitch and volume, of course!) as if to rub my husband's nose in his mistake. :) These guys are not only talented mimics but they have wicked senses of humor, too.

Well, not a bird, but my 12 dogs all howl when the church bell rings across the street!

This just cracks me up!!!!:D:D:D

My neighbor's car alarm went off several times one day due to a malfunction in the wiring, my female quaker thought it was the best invention ever, she mimicked the noise perfectly for days, thankfully she seems to have forgotten the alarm noise. Worse than that, she perfectly mimics my yappy Yorkie's high pitched, annoying bark. The Yorkie will stop barking when she's told to, the quaker just cranks up the volume and barks her little head off.

Anything that makes noises practically; car noises, barking dogs, door closing, you name it! But it's mostly brought on by the dogs when people walk past or if theres a slight knocking...great security though :D

Ohhhhhhhh yeah.....Poppie my Zon....of all of them screams bloody murder when she sees something outside.

All quiet in morning, just about to have a sip of coffee to open eyes when poppie lets out and ear piercing scream when she sees a squirrel out side the window.... Gosh my hot coffee in lap is one that will wake you up...Aaaggghhhhhhhh ouch ouch ouch....

My weiros imitate noises the most. Eddie learnt the sound of the angle grinder when I was fixing up my cockies outside house. Tony likes to whistle. I sing "always look on the bright side of life" and he whistles along. Not the actual tune, he just whistles. He's a real little cutie. I can imagine that they would react if they had a fire truck nearby. Glad we don't. :D
