OK so attempt two. Not my attempt The budgies insist.

Had a scare this morning, I heard the baby in the box then all the birds scattered and found the baby on the floor. If landed on a fleece blanket throw thing that I had on the floor. Mom and dad scattered too. I put the baby back in and then caught the mom and showed her the baby was back inside. She has been taking care of it so I don't think the parents threw it out. Best guess an opportunistic bigger bird bird was able to grab it through the door and dropped it, hence the scatter.

Mom is with it now it's still being fed and warmed all day. I didn't see any blood or anything.

That must have been unnerving! How old is the baby now? Does he have down all over him?

Nope still pin feather mostly. A few more days....

The baby is growing out colored feathers. Soon going to emerge. Silly bbies are silly, I did not misspell that the bby is a bby It's a silly bby. No a in the word it's a bby. pronounce it bubby. but with the shortest of 'U's, Yeah thinking 99% now or the bird making it. After that the nesting box is going to disappear. After I get by next bby.

Donna I thank you for my new bby yes my bby, Your wisdom should be put on a pinboard on here. For how to "carpet the Nest box"

We need pictures of new bby! Does it have the same parents as your other babies? Does Dad help feed new bby?

You're lucky your mama budgies don't lay eggs like my Tilly did- 8 or more in a clutch! I only let her keep 2 fertile eggs per clutch (subbed rest with dummies) or I would be overrun with inbred budgies. Hopefully yours will stop when the nestboxes are gone.

Looks like another green

Took the bby out today because all the budgies were hanging around, Trying to entice it out. I let it on the floor in case it might try to fly but it doesn't know the concept yet or just not ready. So thinking tomorrow or Friday/Saturday maybe. Still a few spots to fill in with some down feathers still exposed. Silly bby.

Weird feature, part of the beak has like a black, forgot to take a picture outside but got one by re-opening the flap. Not sure whats on the walls some previous injury I guess. Bby is ok.

Baby budgies beaks are blackish near the tip until about fledgling age. He's a cutie!

Isn't it amazing to watch an egg hatch into a little pink blob and develop into an actual bird, complete with feathers, in about 30 days! Especially since no one taught the parents what to do!
Your little green pickle is adorable. You can name him whatever you want but I'm calling him Pickle!

His wings aren't fully grown yet. I think he's going to need another, I'm guessing, 5 days before he can fly.

This little bby needs to come out today or tomorrow So I can be here. This little bby is being stubborn. I want my little bby.

What a cutie! When my budgies had bbys it took longer than I thought it would for them to fledge. They liked hanging out with Mom in the box because she was sitting on another clutch.

Why are you in such a hurry for him to leave the box?

I brought out the bby again.

To answer your question the bird must emerge to become part of the flock.

This is just a trial the bird must emerge from the box and claim his or her place in the flock...So sayeth the parrot god.

Oh also I want the bird to leave the box so I can get rid of it ,they are trying to F*ck again. SO yeah baby out then no more nest.

I totally get it! Budgies waste NO time starting another clutch and usually still have older chicks in the nest when they do. I had this same issue when I wanted my pair to stop after their second clutch and she started laying again. I suggest that instead of rushing the fledging process before bby is ready you get some dummies eggs and replace any eggs she lays with dummies as they are laid and when bby finally fledges on his own remove the box. She will forget about the eggs in short time because they have the attention span of a gnat.

I worry about rushing the fledging process because you have larger birds and would worry about bbys safety. Bby needs to be able to eat on his own and fly well in a mixed species flock like yours.

A better idea that would stop the endless cycle would be to remove the box and take Dad and bby out and put them in a large cage together to allow him to continue feeding bby and weaning him. It shouldn't take more than a week. Separating the male and bby from the female will also help prevent them from continuing and laying eggs in some other place. Once bby is fully fledged and weaned, put both of them back with the flock.

I hope this makes sense.v

My budgies Rocky (F) and Beau (M) are a bonded pair but I don't give them a box so they don't "nest" but it doesn't stop them from doing the Humpty Dance. Tonight I gave them a shower under the kitchen sink sprayer. I hold a small plate under the spray and the hop onto the plate and splash around. Tonight they started mating right there on the plate as I held it under the spray! I couldn't believe how shameless they were! Jeez, guys! Get a room!

This morning I heard the bby to flippy flappy practice in his box. Flp flp flp flp flp......Thinking maybe tomorrow he joins the flock.
