Well I think I know why marley has been a bit grumpy ...... He has been trying to mate with his bell .... Lol ...I think his is abit confused hahaha should I remove the toys he is trying to mate with or not...... Any advice or info would be very wecome ..

ROFLOLOL!! I have cockatiel who does the same thing. Our hen, Chiquita...she throws it over her back and chitter chatters and gets into the "mating stance" And she just can't figure it out! LOLOL

Our conure Franklin, he mated his happy hut and perch. I about DIED when I saw it.

Embarrassing little critters they can be sometimes!

My Nanday is extremely embarrassing about these things. She mates with a toy, and sometimes up to 5x a day. People hear that bell ringing and getting faster and faster, and of course they look. Then they ask, "What is that bird doing?" And I just say, "What do you think she's doing?" Of course they laugh. I just let her do it. When she's done she's calmer for awhile. Adult critters have needs. My BC used to moan and groan for at least half an hour when she did these things. People noticed her, too.

Pete is doing it a bit with a perch. That's how I know the liklihood of his being a boy is very high. The DNA test will likely not be put to use.

Some say to take the toy or perch away, but I'm sure they would just use another. I just ignore this behavior and let them do what they need to do. It isn't feasible to have them spayed or neutered so we need to accept that they feel overly hormonal sometimes like anything would.

haha I have dealt with this from dogs but I never ever would have thought that a bird would do this!! Too funny love the stories!

I learned about my bird's breeding seasons this way. Nandays apparently have several times of year that they breed! That's one of the reasons they are inexpensive compared to some species. Blue Crowns seem to have only like 2x of the year that they breed. That's with 2 female birds though. I would expect males might do these things more often.

A couple days ago I was at the local bird store, and a small (apparently female) cockatoo was going at it pretty hard. She had herself wedged between her food dish, with her rump up against a perch. It was pretty silly looking, and she had no shame. LOL.

Puck tries to mate with my hand, and with my boyfriend's hand. Maybe I have a bi birdy! I think his breeding season must have stopped, because he hasn't done it in a few weeks. I'd rather he use a toy than me or my boyfriend, but I haven't seen it. It'd be nice though... I think he'd be happier too.

I came online to post about a similar topic with my yellow nape. From time to time she gets pretty heated up with me and starts kneeling down, making her funny noises, flapping her wings a little, and sticking her butt in my face. When this happens I have a lot of trouble getting her to stop. She will demand attention from her cage or perch, then when I pick her up she will immediately lurch to get into my chest or shoulder so she can resume this behavior. It doesn't really bother me since I know it's only natural, but I feel bad for her getting so riled up and disappointed when I just put her back in her cage. She hasn't figured out that she can mate with inanimate objects instead of my face - I'm not sure if there's a way to encourage that or if it's even a good idea to do so. I'm also wondering if doing more training might help out, maybe as a distraction or just to get her into a different mindset from time to time. Thoughts?

Oh my! I wouldn't want any of my birds to mate with my face! So far they have all found the toys or perches that work well for them without involving me.

Pete was courting me until he saw Merlin and got the thunderbolt. I was just ignoring him. If he was out, I put him back in the cage and didn't look at or talk to him until after he returned to appropriate behavior. My other larger birds are/were all female and seem to all know that I am as well. So they have not hit on me. And so far Merlin has only presented herself to Pete, not me. So she must know he's a boy.
