So, I had been thinking about getting another bird, but I planned on getting another linnie, I didn't really want another large parrot. Then I met Buddy. I found myself drawn to him. Just looking at him, I knew he had a story, so I asked what his story was.

He was owned by a couple, but he was really the husband's bird. In fact, the wife couldn't stand him. Then their marriage ended in divorce. Instead of Buddy going with his person, the wife took him, just to spite the husband. Since she didn't like him, she basically just left him in a room by himself for over 8 years. No surprise, he plucked himself bald.

So a friend of mine took him in about 5 years ago. She has gotten him to the point where most of his feathers have grown back in, but she breeds large birds and has several pet birds on top of it and he is at a point where he needs more than she can give him. So I came home with him.

He is still really nervous, but he just loves to be held and talked to. He will literally step up to anyone. Our daughter is in love with him, I think she may end up being his person. Only time will tell though, as he is still really nervous. He has started plucking a bit since I brought him home, but I sort of expected that. I only hope it is just temporary and doesn't take him long to settle in. We have an appointment with the vet for Thursday for a wellness exam.

I'm definitely in the doghouse with the wife, but it's not the first time. I couldn't help myself. I don't even care for greys, but I was so drawn to him, I couldn't leave without him. There is just something about him.

What a great new chapter to begin for both you and your family and for Buddy! I am so glad for everyone involved and I can't wait to hear how your relationship with Buddy grows. Congratulations!!

Oh Gus was not a happy camper. They aren't even near each other yet, but Gus knows there is another grey in the house. He is being grouchier than normal since I brought Buddy home. He's settled down a little bit more today, so hopefully it's temporary. :p

Oh wow Buddy seems like an amazing grey looking for the right fit. I’m so happy he’s with you all!!! Pics please!!

What a sweet "oops";) I see what drew you to Buddy, he does have something about his eyes. I bet in time, he's going to really be a great presence in your home. Congrats!

Buddy is precious! I'm so excited to hear how he settles in.

Hi buddy! Welcome to the best home you’ll ever have!

Buddy is gorgeous!! So happy you've found each other!!

Aww, hopefully he wins over your wife in time, and settles in well.

And I hope his original human's ex-wife gets pooped on by wild birds wherever she goes, and her car get equally blessed.

Nigel... Greytown has a new citizen!

Congratulations!!! Buddy couldn't have found a better forever home than he has with you. And I get the feeling he'll win over both your wife AND Gus, given some time.

What a bittersweet past for Buddy. A pawn in a divorce, and abandoned for years. Feathering looks mighty nice considering the period of plucking.

He has certainly landed on his feet with a great new home. Enjoy!

Buddy's appointment at the vet went well yesterday. He said that aside from the plucking, he looks to be in really good health. He has good weight and the feathers he has are in good condition for being a plucker. Also found out that he is for sure a boy, as he had been surgically sexed and tattooed at some point in his past.

Even considering he went to the vet yesterday, he seems to be settling in pretty well. He's still a very nervous bird, but I'm pretty sure he'll always have some of that. He seems to really enjoy the fact that his cage is in front of the big bay window so he can watch the birds and squirrels outside. He is perfectly content to sit and watch what's going on outside.

He is settling in really well. I think we are beginning to understand each other much better. I decided to change his name to Luke. He doesn't seem to show any reaction to the name Buddy, so I figured it wouldn't make much difference to him. As much as he talks, he doesn't even say Buddy, so who knows if that was even his name before. He actually seems to like not being called Buddy, so maybe it was his name but it brings up bad memories. Who knows?

Unbelievable what people can do given the sensitive emotional nature of these animals. I believe most people are just more ignorant than ill-willed though.

Thank you for taking him in, and please keep us updated.
