Mira, my female YSGCC, is 2. Normally she is with her bff/favorite thing to dominate male Turquoise Gcc, Luca. However sadly Luca passed away a few weeks ago from unknown causes. Everyone has just had their check ups and seemed fine (please note Mira and Luca were rehomed with a friend for about 6 months, hence the vet check when they came back). All was fine. Luca, who seemed to have hated me, went off to birdy boot camp with a member from the local Parrot rescue (all birds there were tested for diseases prior to them arriving long before). She called a week and a half into his boot camp to say he had passed away. A necropsy showed no signs of damage or issues with lungs or liver. He chalked it up to a heart attack. The other birds were fine.
Any way, Being seperated was always hard on Mira(I had tried before in another room) and I knew for certain him being gone permanently would have her upset. Since we had no exact diagnosis as to why he died, I never allowed Mira to see that he was 'gone'.
Now Mira is creeping me out. She's very shy, and always has been, but usually steps up. She's continuing to step up now.... But with a huge difference I don't understand.
She will step 1 foot up onto my finger, clutch hard, and won't let go, but also won't step the other foot up. Most of the time she will pull my finger to her chest, hold it, and rock back and forth whining, her heard nodding. She'll do the same when I ask her to step down. She just won't let go and is acting hormonal.
She's always been over the top with hormonal whining and being touched. But the grabbing on and not letting go is new. I can touch her cheeks and I'm OK... Her neck, throat, and even her feet get her moaning and dancing.
She's yelling more that she ever has, but she's not acting desperate to get my attentions. Mostly she'll yell at night, like she's looking for Luca to snuggle up with.
My other female Gcc, Conlan, I've been dealing with hormones for years, but Mira is 100 times worse. Unlike Connie, she's not aggressive, it's like she's OVER stimulated.
No change in diet or anything but Luca passing away, which since he had been gone at boot camp I doubt she knows he's dead.
I would like to be able to get her out and let her sit with me without my fingers being held prisoner ROFL. She shows no aggression, and no over needy 'needs to be with me' attitude. Just don't wanna let go and whiney/rocking.
She gets a good diet, Avian Prime supplement, has a cuddle bone, lots of toys, I've been making sure they get enough sleep in the dark, no overly sugary foods....
Any ideas? She's been the same for weeks......
