Paprika came home!

Earlier this week (Monday), I got a call from her breeder that all the blood and stool tests I requested (Polyoma, PBFD, Chlamydia, etc.) came back negative and that I could take her home.

So little (big) girl is now home with us. She hatched 6/10/2020, and is on 3 feedings of 30ml each. She is super sweet, and is actually much quieter than Basil (my male SI) was. He would scream as a baby when he was hungry. She just makes that little eclectus cry, and wants to beak your fingers when she is hungry.

She sleeps all night without crying, and she seems to be adjusting to everyone very well. She is very very pretty, and she is a big girl. She weighed in at 334 grams, which Basil is only 370 grams!

I will post pics when she wakes up, as I don't want to disturb her now.

I am keeping them apart for now even though she has a clean bill of health. He is mostly not so interested in her yet, but I did catch him doing this:

I was doing dishes and I keep her in whatever room I am in. He flew over and landed on her tub to check her out. He’s finally molting good so all those stress bars are slowly disappearing (yay!).

It is really interesting to me about her is that her beak is almost all black already. I have seen many other females with the typical black and yellow mixed beak this young, but her's since she hatched has been almost all black. That is why me and the breeder were pretty sure after the first two weeks she was a girl.

She turned 10 weeks old yesterday. She is doing so good and is such a good girl. She barely cries for food. She doesn’t bite, just breaks fingers out of curiosity. She will lay down flat on your chest like a mother hen and fall asleep. So happy with her.

Yesterday during a conference call for work I had her on my chest and she was making the little noises she does when she falls asleep. During this she got really loud and everyone one the conference call heard her and was laughing. She then all of sudden she sounded like she said “HELLO!” I am not sure if she really talked but everyone on the call thought she said it too. Ten weeks seems a little young to be talking though.

She still is learning to perch and step up. She is a little clumsy but she is getting better. She is still in her rubbermaid as I don’t feel she is stable enough to be in a cage and on perches nonstop. She gets stir crazy so I let her out to walk around the floor. If Basil is on his tree stand, she will flap her wings and try to intimidate him. If he happens to be anywhere near (5 feet) her, she will try to chase him away. He just flies up to his stand or top of his cage and looks at her like she is some type of crazy.

She’s almost completely feathered in now and I’m just tickled pink with her.

11 weeks today. She will be moving into a cage soon as she has started to fly a little bit this morning she went across the entire house. She’s so cute.
