Parrot landed on toilet brush

As the title says... I was changing his water bowl when he got scared and flew out of the room and into the bathroom. He landed on the toilet brush. He won't step up nor can I touch him so I cannot just take him in my hands and shower him. I'm scared of him getting sick now and I'm aware this is all my fault. Does anyone have any adice on what I should do next?

Sorry just do the best you can.

If you approach from behind using a towel. Have a bowl of water ready for his bath if you think it is absolutely necessary otherwise return to his cage.

In future it will be necessary that the loo lid is always down and the bathroom door closed.

when you say he landed on the brush do you mean the brush or the handle of the brush? definitely try to get him a clean, even just a bath in a bowl should clean him up. In an extreme situation where there is a danger and they refuse to step up then yes a towel should be used. Although I often just say to hell with my safety and live through the bites. Thankfully they're smart enough as creatures not to eat another creature's poo so the odds of ingesting something are extremely low, just keep an eye on them for a while just to monitor any changes in health. Deep breathes now, the scary part's done!

For the future I suggest teaching them to step-up on a perch. Preferably one from their cage, you'd be amazed how readily they will step on to a perch they know even when scared.

how big is the bird, a smaller bird pick him up from the back and put his feet under the water stream of the sink...if it's a big one um use a towel to hold if he's not that comfortable with you.


Clark sometimes poops and steps in it, I hold him sideways and wash his feet off in the sink; with a bigger bird I dunno. I leave those birds to the experts. Spray feet with water bottle?

There are bird-specific habitat sprays (with enzymes) that break down bacteria, which can be safely used to disinfect their feet in a small application. I wouldn't worry too much as birds are pretty fastidious - if you're particularly worried you can always sterilize their environment with hot water (bird safely away obv), baking soda + vinegar, etc what have you.

Unless the brush was wet from recent use, the transfer of bacteria should be minimal. Possibly more dangerous is harsh cleaning chemical residue. If you can't give him a shower, perhaps a spray bottle of water on the feet and affected areas will suffice.

You can use a dilution of F10 but mind the eyes.

Just give him a bath or shower or spritz, what ever he is used to getting. Salty likes to have his feet washed under the sink faucet , but just his footies.

Thank you all for your advice. It's an Irn and hr landed on top of the brush, not the handle. Brush wasn't wet. I went to the pet shop and bought bird shower spray with aloe vera and tea tree oil and will steam clean the cage.
About stepping up, Ive been trying to teach him but so far to no avail.
I'll definitely will be monitoring him and his behaviour. Should I maybe add some vinegar to his water or something to boost his immune system, just in case?
