Parrotlet cage size

What size cage would be best for a parrotlet?

If I end up getting Soleil, I want to give her the best of everything. Starting with a fantastic cage.

I'm not very knowledgeable on parrotlets, so I'm hoping someone else can chime in.

But generally, 'the bigger the better' and wider rather than tall (for flying, more than climbing) is what's applied to most cages. I'll look into parrotlets so more and see if I can get back to you on that. but I'm hoping someone else can chime in first

Width is better than height 24x18 would work. Mine Is in 18x18 she is fine in it. But I wish it was a little wider. Also no more than 1/2 bar spacing.

I have this cage for Porter; granted I can't afford anything grander at the moment though HE doesn't like anything bigger either. Having to ship back the big grand cage I had for him to my folks well...

In my opinion Parrotlets should have as large a space as you can provide being very very energetic little guys. IN my opinion that cage is the SMALLEST one should provide for one being 18x18x30.

I'm going to be looking into getting THIS cage for my parakeets.

For a parrotlet this is an awesome size.. and since their beaks can't chew through the bars.. you'd have a darned happy birdie without worrying about having a cage that is too small.

I'd recommend at least a 2' square cage, larger if you can do it. Flight cages can be great for little birds!

Thanks guys! I wish I hadn't gotten rid of the old flight cage I had up until a few months ago! Alas, I didn't know Soleil then and I've always had my sights set on a larger bird for our next addition.

I know this is an older post, but for my baby linnies and parrotlets, I tend to have them in 30x18x18 cages until they get a little bigger, around six months of age. I don't know about others, but mine tend to be a bit clumsy! Then I move them into a small aiviary with lots of ladders, bongs, and swings as their wings are clipped. My linnies are moving tomorrow. My parotlet is still pretty small, he's a month younger then the linnies, so I'm keeping him in the breeding cage for a little while. They do spend time outside their cages, and they have perches, toys and bongs attached on the outside of their cage as well.

We have 2 parrotlets and bought them a Critter Nation ferret cage. It is 36X24X63 and has all horizontal bars. it is powder coated and they absolutely love all the space

I think bigger is ALWAYS better. I have a pair of Pacific Parrotlets and a pair of Fischer Lovebirds, so I have 2 cages, both of them Prevue F040. As I'm sure you all know, large sized cages can break the bank. But his particular cage I have found is just terrific and very reasonably priceed for what you are getting - here is a link on Amazon:

This cage comes in even a larger size - the F050 (those are zeros) but for my lovebirds and parrotlets the F040 is perfect and easy to clean-

These cages would be great for any smaller birds, from finches to conures, but birds larger than that - well the bar spacing is only half an inch, and the wires are not very thick, I think larger parrots could rip it apart lol. But it has a lot of advantages for people with smaller birds.
