passionfruit for the birds

Today I planted a black Nellie Kelly grafted passion fruit for my two fids (cleo and ruby). Once the vine has grown a bit bigger i will transfer it to a larger trellis and pot. As it is autumn at the moment here in down under I hope that it will be fruiting by spring (hopefully). I hope to be able to give them the fruit once it has grown (can't wait. has anyone else tried growing some of their own fruit for their fids. Also has anyone found some certain ways their birds love passion fruit to be served.

Mine have always loved it any way I give it to them - usually after I thoroughly wash the fruit, they love to open it up and make a mess while eating. Enjoy!!!!

Hey there.. im also in Australia (QLD). I grow peas beans & multiple varieties of chillies for our 2 ruby and jess.
Ps. thanks for the idea of planting a passion fruit vine. Our 2 love them... but i hate cleaning the walls, windows, lounge and wherever else Ruby our Eclectus can fling the seeds while she tears into the passionfruit to drink the juice (i keep saying i should give messy stuff to them in their cages). I should take a picture of my prized chilli plant to share lol.

I ordered a passionfruit plant not long ago, but so far our rather chilly spring temps have prevented it from growing.

I have Passiflora incarnata (Purple Passion Flower), which 'should' do fine in my climate.... :54:

There were two reasons for me wanting this particular plant:
1. The flowers are gorgeous
2. The fruit is edible

yum! I've a ton of yard space I really need to utilize more effectively. I don't know if I'd ever feed the fids anything from it, though, too many concerns over sanitation.

Hey William, I took a pic of my favorite chilli bush this afternoon for you to see. While i was there i picked a few for the birds. Because there was so many ripe ones i picked a few more for a mate who like to cook with chilli.
