Today I discovered that my three conures love spagetti. I was wondering what kinds of pasta I should get them and how often I should offer it to them.
I admit that the quality they ate wasn't the best. I'm sure prego is terrible for them! I'm going to blend spinach and tomato for the sauce. Is beef an okay protein for them?

My conure loves pasta! I feed her the wheat kind and feed it to her plain!

Pritti has some of my Italian genes, I guess. Because he loves pasta. I make the whole grain type. Sometimes I make a bunch just for him and freeze about a cup per ziplock bag so I can pull it out and hae it for a few days, 1,2,3. He likes it plan boiled and a little warm and on the wetside. Today I took some of the spaghetti cooked and mixed it in the food processary with 1/8 tsp peanut butter, and Zupreem Natural pellets, medium/larg size.

I rolld them in to little ball like the same as nutri-berries, he liked them even better because of the softness and the lttle hint of peanut better.

I'm happy to get him to simply eat pellets. If it is well received, you could save it and use i as a treat.

I'd use a whole grain pasta, preferably rotating the different types of grains (spelt, rice, buckwheat, etc).

Darcy practically slurps spaghetti! LOL

Pasta has always been my birds favorite. I try to get whole wheat/whole grain and i make a special container for the birds without my 'stuff' on it. (Georgie used to flip out until she got mine but Gilbert is fine with his healthier version).
For Gilbert - i have been making either cous cous or a small pasta with spinach and sometimes a few mashed beans in it (they are canned so they have salt--i drain/rinse his and just give a few). he also will often have whole wheat spaghetti with mixed veggies. i put a small container in the fridge and let him eat it for a few nights while i'm having dinner.
Sadly (sad that i have already spoiled him like this, i'm saying) his most favorite thing is cavatelli with pesto and broccoli. yes, oily and a little salty and that is kind of naughty of me but the fact that it got him eating broccoli is good, right? :)

I use Barrila Plus Pasta which is a whole grain pasta made up of various grains that is also the one we like . I boil up a pkg with no salt and rinse some off , put in a small ziplock bag then run a small amount each day under hot running water to heat then serve. all four of my birds like it. we get to eat the rest with whatever I am doing with it.:)

@RuffledFeathers,
Nice to hear an update about Gilbert Oliver. Sounds like he is quite the gourmet. There is a brand of canned beans that has a No Salt Added version of the Chick Peas, and they are organic. I get them at the regular supermarket and I think one of the superstores carries them too (store's name starts with a "T").

Pritti loves beans. It's so simple -- grab a bag of dried beans from the market, soak them overnight, boil them with a pinch of salt til they are nice and soft. You can freeze them in little portions to use later. He flips for the freshly cooked chick peas and lentils.

P.S. if you like beans, you'll love these - they taste soo much better than canned and the texture is less mushy.

That was the only thing that Pedro would behave for. She was a perfect angel if you had spaghetti.

Codie loves pasta. I make a large batch of Pasta, Peas, Green Beans, Corn, Pulses, Brocolli, Carrots, etc and mix it altogether, then freeze in individual portions.

:) I haven't had any Gilbert Oliver updates lately, have i? That storm and subsequent chaos in life all over has been time consuming!! FOOD is something that got my attention with regard to my little man. haha He has NO PROBLEM with his appetite, particularly for PASTA.

I do whole wheat pasta or the tricolor that has spinach/tomato in it.
