Do your birds eat the left-over pellet crumbs in the bowl?

There are so much of it. My conure eats the crumbs some times. But I still have so much of it. Parrots are so wasteful when they eat. I hate to throw out the crumbs if I know what to make out of them to keep my conure interest in eating them up faster.

Have you tried reducing his portions? slowly reduce the amount you give him daily until you find an amount he will eat without too much waste.
There are recipes around for "chips" and birdie bread that you can use pellets in too, hopefully someone will have the links they can share with you. Otherwise have a google or search the forum =D

If you make up birdie bread you can throw it in that to feed to them. You can sprinkle some on any wet/fresh food you make up too.

My birds don't eat the crumbs. I do have a tendency to just throw it out I guess I'm just as wasteful as them....:54:

My birds do reduce pellets to crumbs. Even small pellets. If I don't refill with more, they will eat the crumbs. Freespin had a good suggestion with putting less in at a time.
My budgies will keep reducing the pieces smaller and smaller until he crumbs are powder. Then they'll eat the powder and keep sneezing as they eat up every bit. I suppose I shouldn't laugh, but it's pretty funny.

Thanks guys. Good idea about reducing the pellet portion. I feel like my conure just grind up all of the pellets for fun without swallowing any. I took the time to carefully refrigerate all of her pellets to prevent bugs from hatching out and all. And then she just turn them into dust for fun. At least she stand on her food bowl to eat so most of those crumbs don't end up at the bottom of the cage.

I used to have a huge problem with that too. Smaller portions will help! I also found for Gilbert, strangely enough, he does better with the smaller pellet. I was feeding the coarse, as the vet recommended it, but when I switched to fine, he enjoys it more and doesn't leave crumbs (not many).

i have that problem sometimes too,i make cookies with it.
