Yes, birds are messy. I feed Harrison's & it isn't cheap. For the longest time my conure, Rocket made "soup" in her water dish, wasting about as much as she devoured. By switching the water bowl across from food, & adding gravity-fed water beside her pellets, I broke her of soup-making. So then I felt sorry for her!
Now it appears that she has compensated for wasting soggy nugs by allowing a huge amount of food to go under the bottom grid and pile up on the newspaper below. I actually studied her table manners only to see kibble literally dribbling from her beak. Apparently domestic birds have nio sense of conserving resources, nor concern that food may run out?
