Valentino - 10 yr. old Harlequin Macaw (02/14/2006)
We're having some issues with eating pellets, she simply won't! So far I've tried Harrison's, Roudybush and Zupreem fruit mix to no avail. I have been mixing it in with the My Safe Bird Bountiful Harvest she really seems to like. When I got her she was on some crap from Walmart that had seeds and all kinds of stuff in it. She's not into eating fresh veggies either, she does like pineapple, strawberries, cantaloupe and some fruits. I have a friend who's Macaw did great switching to the Roudybush pellets, but V just isn't having it. Picky bird... :orange:

Also found out from the vet, even though the people I got her from said she was male, she's female lol :) Got her a new cage and she's doing pretty good. Was under weight when I took her to the vet, 2.8 pounds.

She's SUCH a beautiful girl!!! What is 'her' name??

Have you, by any chance, seen this thread? It gives some great ideas on how to convince your bird to eat healthier things. :) http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-...7-converting-parrots-healthier-diet-tips.html

I know my flock wants to have whatever it is I'm eating. Perhaps you can try eating something (healthy) in front of her, make a HUUUUGE deal about how yummy it is, and then offer her some. Not from your mouth, of course (just making sure to throw that in there).

Here is something I regularly cook for my flock, and none can resist it, especially when warm: http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-food-recipes-diet/22594-cook-portion-freeze-my-recipe.html

Aw! Keep trying. I practically had to STARVE my fids (of anything else) before they realized that the Harrizon's I was putting in their bowls was, in fact, edible:30:

Her name when I got her was Valentino, but I'm probably gonna just go with Valentine, I call her V when I'm talking to her though lol. If there is no other options in the dish she will eat the Zupreem pellets, but I'd hate to do that to her. Thanks for the threads, I didn't see that one :)

Her color is incredible, crazy rainbow chicken lol :) That cage she is on was the one she came with when I got her, obviously that was one of the first things I changed when I got her!

She’s amazingly beautiful!

That is a nice BIG cage you have for her, such an improvement from that round fishbowl. Does she enjoy showing off her beautiful colors?

She's always stretching her wings out. She'll hang off the top of that cage like a monkey, I think she appreciates it a whole lot more than that goofy round one she was in. I got a large tiki rope perch for her in the mail yesterday I'm going to put that in her cage tonight to replace the dowel perch that came with the cage :)

Hate to admit it...but same here. It was like watching a heroin addict come down, lol

She is a beautiful Harlequin!! I love it when they have red chest feathers.

The Harlequin's color is amazing, I think the Catalina is a gorgeous bird too. I had no idea there were macaws with color like V until I met her. I was always partial to the B&G before meeting her :) Now I have half a B&G lol!
