Today I brought my birds into a bird store to get groomed and we started talking to the lady that owned it and we asked her if our birds were male or female and she told me what they were with a pendulum

I'd ask for documented evidence for that. Sounds like the different things people do to find out if a woman's having a boy or girl.

I have heard of this "myth" before. The only way is DNA or surgical to sex your birds.

Well I knew I had a pair of birds and she just told me which was a female and which was a male. I believe what she said about the pendulum because other people have told me that they have used them and that the pendulum was correct. It's a weird way to find answers for things but I think it works a lot of the time.

Also, if I was going to breed a pair of birds I would get them DNA tested just to make sure.

How does this pendulum test work? Considering the odds of a bird being male or female is 50%/50%, I don't think her track records holds much water.

I have also heard of this method being usd in budgies. It struck me as stupid because of the fact budgies can be easily told appart. Forgiv me if I leav out the 'e' sometims, it isn't working properly.

I've only heard of this being used in pregnancies. It's a bit of fun but I wouldn't use it as a reliable tool

Like I said, I wouldn't rely on this method if I was going to breed the bird but if someone has a single bird and they're just curious I would think it would be a pretty useful method.

It's 50/50. I could tell some one that their bird is a male when in a couple of years the bird lays an egg. It isn't really reliable at all.

Here is a fact that I found:

The U.S. Navy was able to correctly locate all of the Russian's submerines during the Cold War using a pendulum (I've been reading about historic uses of pendulums). http://www.pendulums.com/history.htm

Was that just luck?

I don't think you're going to convince the sceptics with this one and I don't think we'll convince you either so we may all have to agree to disagree
