As I drove in from work yesterday, I could hear Percy screaming in the house. I couldn't quite make out what he was shouting but he does contact call in the afternoon so I assumed that was it. I was still putting the car away when my mom came running out, saying "Hurry! You HAVE to hear this!"

Turns out my dear biter/lunger/mood prone (all towards ME only :( ) was calling out for ME! Coming closer, all I could hear was "Baba! Babaaaa! Baaabaaaa!". I almost shrieked from happiness.

When I got through the door, he spread his wings, danced up and down on his gym, babbled every word he knows and basically panted for me to come over. He still won't let me pet him but he does want me close and wants to chat with me. He also seems to know when to expect me home from work.

I am so pleased that my 'take it slow' approach with him is having such a visible result. He will one day adore me as much as I adore him, I'm sure!:D

Yayyy!! That is awesome!! So happy and excited for you!

By the way, both my sun conure, and my BFA recognized and were able to distinguish the sound of my car approaching...

My daughter, and others who were home said they would here it and start squawking and position themselves to fly to me when the door opened.

My BFA used to LAUNCH from her cage to my shoulder the minute the door opened. She didn't even slow down to aim... and I would get the "daddy's home" dance and full on clown bird greeting, followed by a head in the eye socket...

So, at some point down the line, that could be you...

That was the most bonded bird I ever had! They've both been gone for around five years now, but I still miss them both...

AWESOME!! Birdy Lovin is THE BEST!!

Awww,

That's sweet, Bosley knows my car when I come home and I get a huge yell when I walk through the door, MAAAWM.

Thats awesome :) Such a nice feeling

NAAAAWWWWWWWWW!!!!! Isn't it the best feeling when they do that?! :D sounds like Percy wuvs his mommy ;)

That is so awesome! All my guys are so thrilled when my husband gets home, they scream, jump up and down. I am like chopped liver when he arrives...the drawback to always being here I reckon:)

Your name is baba?

Your name is baba?

LOL. No, my name is Michelle. But for some unknown reason, I've called him Baba ever since he came to us. Baba means 'baby' in my country and is often used as a term of endearment. I guess he's picked it up because in Percy speak "Babaaaa!!" definately means ME.:o

We use baba here sometimes too :)

HA!! I call ALL my animals "bubba", even the husband on occasion. :54:

And you don't even live in Texas...

A baabaa where I come from refers to a baby's pacifier.

German?! I thought Babushka was Russian...

Way to go Percy and Michelle. That is awesome news. You must be so excited. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that they do indeed love you after all. :)

My father's side is Polish and we have always used the word 'babushka'. I am so happy about your bird calling out for you - I know that you have been longing for a closer relationship with him, and dealing with some hostility from him, so this is more than a baby step, it's a giant step and I'm thrilled for you :)
