Hey Everyone, I know ppl ask about cages all the time and Im sure this has prob. come up before. I have a 8 month Alex and Im wanting to get her a new cage. I had a 24x24x4ft cage that I had from a rescue (cleaned, cleaned and cleaned again ) that Mango has been residing in. Im now able to get Mango her own brand new cage and I have about $500 for it. I dont need recommendations for specific cages. Just wondering everyone's likes/dislikes on different styles. Mango's current cage has a playtop and if cage is open she does go up there, but just kinda sits I wouldn't say she plays. She spends her day out on her playstand about 8-10hrs a day. Undecided to get a playtop or something like a fantop cage, also is there any features that you can or cannot do without. Thanks for letting me pick your brains about this...LOL!

I have both types of cages. My sun conure has the playtop and he loves it. I can put toys on it and he only goes in the cage to eat and drink. My cockatoo has the dome top and i can not keep her on it so she has a playstand that she is on all day. If i ever get a new cage it will have the playtop on it. It would save me a little space because i wouldn't have to have another playstand in my living room

I too have one of each type. My birds love to sit on the playtop and watch the world. I now wish I had two playtops.

Mine is a dometop. I went with it because for a playtop of equal price, I would have had a smaller cage. Since my husband and I both work the same shift for 8 hours a day (plus 1/2hour travel time each way), I opted for the bigger cage over the smaller cage and playtop since he would be in the cage during work.

I used to say that I wouldn't own a bird cage without a playtop. But I now own one. When I got mac from his previous owners, he came with his current cage. Although a nice High quality Kings cage, it's flat topped. It has a place where a playtop could have been mounted, but the previous owners chose to get him a playstand rather than a playtop for his cage. I have both the playstand and his cage side by side and guess where he spends most of his time, yep, on the top of his cage.

When I replace his cage, which will be down the road, I will get a playtop cage for sure.

I myself prefer playtop cages and I think my birds do also .I hate dome tops because the toys that you buy are not easy to hang in a dome top and the birds slide off the dome top too .

When I adopted Nic Nic the woman who owned the rescue told me not to bother with a playtop because he would never stay on it. Long story short, thanks to a generous gift I wound up with a playtop.

I would never have any other cage, he absolutely loves to spend time on the playtop.

It is easy to clean, offers him a proper perch and a few toys, so he gets additional time out where he can be independent and entertain himself.

Every cage I get moving forward with have a playtop.

I like playtop cages. I like it because Pearl can stay up there a lot and she won't get bored because there is a toy hook.

There's a cagetop playgym that I want to get that attaches to the top of the cage. I emailed and was told it will work on a dometop. So if River's a good little birdie (and even if he's not lol) santa may be bringing him the playtop. :)

Could you share where you found this? thanks

I love my aviary cage and think it's great for my birds :)
