A Green CheekedConure named Rocky
So, my GC Conure Rocky is six months old and has been going through a slow molt that I thought was mostly over. Today, I noticed that he's missing ONLY the feathers that cover his ears. This is new to me and I was worried that this was something worse than molting. Can anyone confirm that this is normal molting or something worse? There's been no other birds. We do have a cat and a Toy Poodle. They never fight or anything like that. There is no swelling or discharge or anything like that. I'm just uncomfortable because I've never been able to see his actual ear holes until suddenly today. I don't have any money to go to a vet for a routine matter. That's why I'm asking here first. If it's an emergency, then I guess I'll have to make some things happen. But, if it's normal, I'll save the trip. I've attached some pics for reference. Thanks for any help!

I haven't dealt with this but I hope your'e able to find out what caused it. Are you scheduling him for an avian vet exam?

If I don't hear anything soon. He's acting in good spirits and let's me run his neck in that area as if he's not in any pain. I'm gonna give it 6-12 more hours and closely monitor him in between those time frames to see if there are any signs of decline. Hopefully, I can find out more on here or elsewhere in that time frame.

Has he been rubbing himself onto something???

I have heard of this happening before during molts although never seen it myself. Most avian vets will answer questions and offer advice over the phone, why don't you give them a call and ask their advice?
