Indian ringneck

Hi my Indian ringneck seems totally normal throughout the day but lately I’ve noticed him panting when he flys too far , feathers are everywhere to the point where idk if it’s a normal amount of feathers or too much. I see no eye discharge or no discharge or no signs of sickness but I’m pretty scared because my last bird died out of no where and I’d do anything to keep this bird alive because I love my pets like their my own children. So I just wanted an opinion. Should I take him to the vet to make sure he’s ok and to calm my nerves ? Lol

He eats and drinks normally and plays during the day but at night he isn’t as active probably because he’s tired but I’m beyond paranoid and traumatized because of my last birdie

Hi blaccfxiry! Thank you for reaching out with your concerns for your birdie!

Although I cannot say for sure whether something is up with your IRN, I always tend to think that if my gut tells me something is wrong, then a visit to the vet is in order. Even if it turns out that my bird is fine and I'm just being terribly paranoid, it's worth getting a professional opinion just to put my mind at ease. My guys get an annual check up anyway regardless of the "appearance" of good health, because as you would already know, they are very good at masking signs of serious illness, sometimes until it's too late.

I've included a link that may help you to locate an avian specialist close to you, just in case you are not already seeing one...

Hoping that your baby checks out fine at the vet and that you will keep us updated! :)

Thank you, you're very kind to say! Like you I love my little ones like they were my children, which they pretty much are. Goodness knows they sometimes drive me crazy just like they were my children!

Wishing your birdie all the very best and a clean bill of health from the vet! :)

Visit to avian vet always good idea when you notice something unusual. Birds are masters of disguising illness as survival method. Is the panting relatively new or typical behavior? Please keep us updated!

it looks like some sinus swelling and feather thin over sinus, and bared nostril and thin feathers there. Would make me think a respiratory infection. You do nit have to have draining or sneezing to have sinus or respiratory infection.

Keeping the bird extra warm is extremely helpful in their recovery, after vet visit and proper medication of course.
Weigh daily while sick. Provide extra calories. Possibly a support feeding or 2 of baby burd formula for extra nutrients and also warmth. Bird burn 3 times tge calories when sick, so even eating they may nit get enough calories.

The panting is regular he does it after he flies about around the room a bit I’m not entirely sure if he’s panting because he’s tired or if he’s scared

My first rescue mynah bird was doing that. Does your bird have a round belly? I thought my Moku was fat and therefore had labored breathing after flying. I was severely wrong.
Turns out he had liver disease and I waited too long before treatment. Spent a lot of money but sadly he died.
RIP Moke Boy
